    But after assembling the laptop, I thought to try hows mouse ball tracking and did not track correctly, It was jumping and i knew it needs cleaning. This is what I found, beside broken standoff After cleaning them now it tracks correctly

    Well that TVS diode was really small, but I managed to solder it. Laptop now chimes and boots. However, top one of those IRFR 9020 showing warm glowing how on thermal camera. Should I replace it or leave it.

    No, mounting pins are thru hole, other are surface mount what do you mean why????

    2 legs on the side that give stability and strength have broken off. Half of the legs are still soldered to the pcb. I found this one but it has only 4 connectors at the back .     After taking diode off, hard drive started to spin but there was no activity from reading heads. Also once I connected top half with the speaker today computer chimed and straight to a floppy disk with ?. Can't find OS to boot from. Did not expect 20Mb drive to be working

    Diode removed and hard drive started to spin but by listening to the drive, reading heads do not seem to be moving. Not sure if it will chime as I did not attached top half

    thank you ... I will get about 5 of them and see how I go. So far nothing else is getting hot apart form inductor and this diode. I have busted power supply to make sure capacitors are ok. They seem to be, but I will replace them too

    And laptop is open.. still has original appl 2.5’ 20MB drive. Now to see where is the power not going, considering my psu is ok.

    yes it would be. I am guessing these is a short on the board. What I did not mention that battery leaked, however it did not seem to have transferred to the board ( yet to be seen)

    I went and did that and power supply is making tick tick noise, no life out of the book. Time to open it and see how many stand offs are broken

    I used multi meter with black probe on the outside and red on the inside.

    Hi all, I have recently purchased Powerbook 180 without a power supply. I found correct power supply, original apple power supply.Tested the voltage 7.5V but when I tested Amps, it was making tick tick noise before plugging it in the computer. Is this suffice to say i purchased a dead power...
