So I went ahead and did this today. I ended up using LM317 for both the 8.2V and 18V rail since there's not an off the shelf regulator for the 8.2 and I wanted to get the 18V one closer to the stock 19.2 I measured. It turned out pretty well I think. I also swapped RL22 for a 5W 100ohm resistor...
Note I'm not replacing the switching circuit coming off the ZP1 monitor transformer. That runs 24V to a bunch of things and I'm not messing with it. I'm just talking about replacing the RL62/DL21/DL22 circuit, which regulates the 24V down to 18V for whatever it is that circuit feeds.
For...
So I'm in the middle of fixing up a Color Classic that I recapped and seems to have a blown PSU switching FET, and it has the same heavily charred area on the PCB under the two 18V zeners you see on most. Has anyone tried replacing that with a linear voltage regulator, and if so what were the...
Have you tried that speaker in an SE/30? I don't have anything comparable to test with unfortunately, and the speaker placement of the SE/30 makes it hard to temporarily install a random one in its place.
Measuring the distance between the tube and the speaker is similar to the distance...
So I ran a test on a Classic, with just a random unshielded PC speaker. Even at a distance greater than the SE/30 speaker sits, it noticeably distorts the image. I was really tempted on the speaker linked in this thread because it's 45 ohms and high sensitivity along with being able to buy all 9...
Sorry to necro a (recently) dead thread, but I'm sourcing a speaker for an SE/30 and am looking at the 45 ohm 57mm one ymk posted.
For those who have gone with something similar like David Cook, or the linked speaker, did you notice any issues having an unshielded speaker that close to the CRT...
They're common components, that model isn't available but equivalents still are.

Has anyone tried using a larger package like a DO-201 or mounting it higher to help with heat dissipation?
So, I got it working. I disassembled a Sony internal PC 1.44MB floppy to check, and it has the same center notches and they were lined up quite well. I was actually thinking I might just do a head swap, but the distance between the slide rail and stepper screw was greater in the PC drive.
So, I...
Correct, with a disk inserted after cleaning the top head didn't come down to the disk surface. I wasn't really paying attention to the head separation while cleaning it, though I don't remember opening it further than the centimeter or so it's separated in the no-disk open position.
This is...
So, I might have buggered my floppy drive in my Color Classic. I got the system at auction a little while ago and to start it would boot fine from the HDD but not read floppies. I took the back cover off and blew out the crap in the case and in the floppy, and after that I was able to load some...
