Yes indeed. Drive>68pin-to-50pin adapter>50pin terminator>cable. Just installed the drive with both adapters, and the SCSI cable juuust reaches. But it works! Boots without needing an external device attached.
I looked around for a while for a 68-to-50 pin adapter with termination, and I couldn't find one. I ended up buying a 50 pin pass through terminator, which hopefully will fix the termination issue. Thankfully these Color Classics have quite a bit of room behind the hard drive for adapters...
It is a 68 pin drive. I did figure out from this article: http://vintagemacmuseum.com/formatting-old-mac-scsi-drives/ that I should change the SCSI ID to 0. I had it set to 1, which is supposed to be for external devices.
I also figured out that I was looking at the block of pins on the drive...
So I inherited a Color Classic from a friend that knows I like fixing Macs. The case is in surprisingly good condition (minimal yellowing, very few scratches, even still has the Quicktime sticker!). It also has 2x4MB RAM sticks, so it's maxed out as far as that goes too.
