Hi all.
just thought i'd drop an update.
I removed the RTC chip and D1 & D2. gave the area another clean and tested the diodes out of circuit and all good I was confident the diodes were fine from my testing, but i thought i'd lift them and clean the area again anyway. put them back in. I then...
Oh! Wow! Thanks both I never bothered to check that in the service manual!
I just assumed it wasn’t rechargeable
Dodged that bullet!
I’ll just pick up another one of these then.
Hi.
Just popped the PRAM battery out of my PowerBook 170 and was planning on replacing it with a 2032. I have the gear to make one I can solder in, but I was wondering if anyone has ever used a holder instead? it adds a bit of height so I'm not sure, but thought I'd ask here before I have a go...
thanks for the info. I did check D2 and it seemed ok, but will recheck it. I do think it's the RTC chip in my case as I get nothing on the 1hz pin, so have ordered a couple of NOS replacements. Thankfully right now the RTC on my Classic is working fine.
ah, ok. so this is generated by the rtc chip? and is it necessary that it's booted to Finder? I didn't have a drive hooked up and was just testing at the disk icon
checked this, it's coming from pin 43 of the UK12 VIA. when I probe this with my scope I got nothing. not sure what I'm supposed to see here, but I have continuity from pin 43 to pin 1 of the RTC.
At a loss now. I've just noticed on the schematic the the other lines to the same via for the chip...
another thing I never mentioned is that when I removed the battery I put the board back in the machine and tested it. the clock was running (could seconds ticking over on the clock in the menu bar) and it ran for at least 3 mins because the screensaver came on. then when I returned to the...
Thanks both. I'll do that now. done all the other stuff, reset pram removed battery for an hour, booted off a floppy and checked instead of the drive, and no difference.
So Further update. it seems that it is only stopped when the machine is running. turn it off, and the clock runs. Starting to think this is a software issue but I haven't changed anything in the last few hours.
Oh well, I'll keep investigating
Hi.
I pulled out my SE/30 that's been sitting patiently waiting for me to recap the PSU and analog board for about 6 months since the screen started glitching. so I did that, and it seemed to be working fine with a stable picture, and generally stable machine. though I did notice that the...
Hi. An update.
It was the disk. seems my mini doesn't like booting of a -rw. it was the only disk I had so was stuck for a few days until my new DVD-R's arrived but then I was stuck for 18hrs because they were delivered to my neighbour and they didn't answer the door when I tried to retrieve...
yeah. I did wonder. I burned the iSO using imgburn on PC as my M1pro refused to burn it to my external burner for some reason, but it was on a DVD-RW, literally the only blank DVD I had. I've ordered some DVD-R. hopefully they may work a bit better.
I'm quite puzzled about the USB stick though...
Just to follow up to this, I have managed to get it to boot from a MorphOS CD, so it is capable of booting off a disk. Is there anything specific i should do when burning an iso for boot?
Does the Classic II tend to have issues when cold? I dont have one, but when i repaired my Classic I i had issues with low voltages from cold (like, hadnt been run for at least 14hrs.) after a couple of mins it would startup, or, i could make it happen faster by directing heat on the main...
Hi. Just picked up a Nice Mac Mini, 1.42Ghz, 1gb, 80gb. all seems to work ok, but i cant get it to boot off DVD or USB.
I have burned a Tiger ISO to a DVD-RW (the only disk i had!) and when the machine has booted off the HDD it will read the disk ok, and if I select Startup Disk from prefs, i...
Finally able to try this and yes! it's booting into 7.5.5 with 32 Bit addressing. Thanks
The original sales page in Tindie did mention the patch and the rom boot but in the moment I have completely forgotten about that and thought the worst!
Thanks for your help
Brilliant! Thankyou!
I never realised this. I made the assumption that i needed to be on a later version of the OS for this to work. I'm fairly certain that the earliest image i tried was 7.5.3. But, yes, i was able to boot off a 7.0.0 floppy and HD image no problem.
I've got the old rom back...
