Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Mind if I ask where you picked up the legit xc3030A? I'm still not convinced mine are counterfeit and still suspect issue(s) with my xc1736 and/or burning process, but I'd buy a few and swap them in to give it a try.
Thx!
Well, I dug out my LCII (7.5.5) and the two cards I made, and same results as before and what you've been seeing. Every Presto extension I put in the Extensions folder hangs the system on boot. I tried 2.0.1 and the various 3.x packages I had. I don't think I have 1.3.1 anywhere so would be...
The XC1736(D/E) chips are supposedly NOS so 'should' be blanks. The 2x EPC chips seemed to program ok, but it didn't seem to like the DPC variety, though it should. I did seem to think they were blank though, so not sure what's up with all that. Just not the best programmer/software is my take.
I got a 5 count on eBay from China so certainly possible they're fake. Not sure I'd have any way to tell, but if a reputable seller comes up, I'd certainly throw in a few bucks to rule them out. I haven't made much progress as other projects have been monopolizing my time over the last couple...
Well, looks like I'm back to the drawing board. I got another LCII to boot with the Presto extension without the card (not sure what's up with the other one), but still freezes with either Tokamac and my flashed XC1736EPC.
Work continues... 🤔

Thanks for checking, and that's actually good news IMO. That makes me think it's more likely the LCII having some issue and maybe my Tokamacs are good after all. I realized I think my CC is in storage so may be this weekend before I can confirm. There's hope though. 😀 I'll report back once I...
Yeah, but don't want you pulling apart the machine to test when I can try first on my CC too. Just not sure what the behavior should be since it locks my LCII both with and without the card in. I'll try tonight and see if things change on another Mac. (y)
Hmm... will have to dig out my CC from the pile and see if it behaves any differently. By file size, it looks like that is one I tried, but worth a shot on the CC as well. Good to know it should be a solid driver then.
In running benchmarks, do you recall having the card out and whether it...
Ok, glutton for punishment that I am, I'm resurrecting this old thread as I spent some more time working on my Tokamac builds. I managed to get a couple of XC1736EPC chips loaded up with the U15 image (having had no luck with the XC1736DPC) and my LCII now boots up with it plugged in...
I'd picked up an old Xeltek SuperPro 280U that said it would program them. I guess technically it does but they don't seem to work. It may be because the github says to set the reset polarity high, but the software doesn't give me the option on the XC1736? 😕
Max1zzz, I'll likely take you up...
Glad to hear you got it going! Sounds like similar issue I'd had but, due in my case, to having the wrong GAL revs. 😋
I still haven't had the chance to remove the EuroDIN and/or the 030 socket to fix my clearance issues. So many projects, so little time...

So just checked mine and pins 10 and 11 show continuity on both U5 and U6. Not on the other two though interestingly enough. The other thing I notice (but not sure it would keep it from coming up) is do you have the solder blob across SJ1? It may be looking for the crystal even though you...
Couple thoughts...
- it might be just the angle of the pic, but U6 looks off center on the pads. I'd go around each GAL with a meter to make sure no shorts with the next pin over. I think there is one set that is supposed to be connected to the next one, but that should be the same across all...
That might be an option. I think there are also files that control the behavior for each type of chip buried in the SP280U software, so perhaps if they're editable I can create my own custom config as a hybrid between the two. Will keep digging.
No, unfortunately not. Tried it both ways and get the same error whenever selecting XC1736D for read and blank check. With XC1736/XC1736A the option isn't there to switch it, but for D it says high is the default so perhaps the default for all of them?
So this is what I get when I select an XC1736D from the list:
As you can see. It not only fails to program as it does with XC1736/XC1736A, but also won't blank check or read the chip at all. Error! across the board. I did also do a continuity check on the ZIF socket to make sure that each...
According to the data sheets, the XC1736/XC1736A want upwards to 15v while the XC1736D wants only 12v (bad if they are D I'd imagine). If memory serves, I did try selecting the XC1736D in the device list, but it not only wouldn't program, it wouldn't even read/blank check them. It also said...
Hi Forrest,
I'll take a closer look when I get back in front of it in a bit here. I actually just threw one of the 8 or so chips I'd been trying to flash on the board for the picture for completeness, but I'm quite sure they've been firmly seated in the ZIF socket (or most of the others were...
So, in tandem with building a couple of Performer 68030 boards for my SEs, I also put together a couple of the Tokamac-LC boards for my LCIIs. Everything is in and together, but I'm really struggling to get the XC1736 programmed. After determining that they weren't supported by my TL866Plus, I...
