Either that, or it somehow something got toast during the incident... The first tell something was amiss was that the fan started turning faster than usual, and immediately after the fire happened. The fan going faster at least indicates an overvoltage on the 12v line... So maybe that's the end...
I am using a Meanwell RPT-60A to power my LCII (which works great); this may explain why it caught fire for me. I got the idea from here. And I used this same power supply (borrowed from my LCII) to test this new LCIII I just recapped... I replaced the burnt cap with a similar one (don't have an...
Well, brining some life back to this thread. I just recapped an LCIII with tantalum capacitors (blindly following what's marked on the board); and guess what... The machine wouldn't start, so I started testing voltages and my C22 tantalum caught on fire!
Are your two zeners also extra toasty? What about the resistors that are near them? In my case they are extra extra toast, but they seem to read ok... Do you have specs for them? I don't really know what to buy to replace them.
After a couple of days, it seems like the Analog Board is acting up. It started with a few flashes here and there, and it now seems to alternate between two states "voltage" states, supplying more or less voltage to the CRT at seemingly random times. I can adjust the pots for one or the other to...
It was a Yahoo Japan auction. I won the auction at 125€, but 10 min before closing it was going for 50€ or so.
I paid about he same for shipping, and then an extra 50€ for EU import tax and 45€ for DHL paperwork administration (which I was quite upset about, as they basically fill up one form...
Well, after a whole afternoon trying out different things, we have success!
I think one of the biggest issues I found was a bent pin on the analog board connector... Other than that, I re-soldered everything around the flywheel, and also cleaned the crt neck connectors.
Hi! Just got a Color Classic II from Japan (Buyee), that was sold as Junk / not working. On the listing pics you could tell it had been Takky'd; it had tons of external cards (video, tv, ethernet + modem) but it looked to be in pretty decent shape cosmetically... I was willing to give it a try...
Did you ever figure out a replacement? Mine look really toasty as well... And so do their surroundings. They even managed to detach the traces from the board. They seem to test ok, but I'd like to replace them anyway, together with that resistor north of DF2, which I cant even read its ID.
