Not yet, though that sounds like a good idea. The weirdness that I'm experiencing feels like a memory issue or something. Just weird that the computer never crash chimes and Mac OS boots fine. Maybe A/UX is just much more fragile to memory errors than Mac OS?
My IIfx has the stock ROM and 32MB of RAM.
I just spent the entire day trying to get 2.0.1 installed with no success. The computer just kept hanging or throwing strange errors during the install process, sometimes while formatting the disk, other times while copying files to the disk. I tried...
I haven't tried 2.0.
However, since then I also tried the WGS 95 3.1 ISO, as well as a pre-made 3.1.1 AU/X disk image. Neither booted.
I'm beginning to think that either the IIfx isn't compatible with A/UX 3.x (contrary to existing documentation), or it needed a special release of A/UX. After...
I'm trying to install A/UX 3.x on my IIfx but can't get anything to work.
When I try booting from the Retail Floppy + Retail A/UX 3.0.0 CD, I get the error "loadshlibs: lib /shlib/libc1_s not found" after the "Welcome to A/UX. Launching..." prompt appears.
When I try booting from the Retail...
Yeah I think the only way to know would be to look at the schematics for the MDD. Some of the schematics for other G4 computers have resistor configurations for unused higher bus speeds. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like anyone has leaked the MDD schematics yet.
Though it may be wishful...
I did some more investigating and found the datasheet for the clock gen IC (CY28506OC) on the MDD. According to it, the IC does not support frequencies over 167MHz. As such, 200MHz on the MDD would likely require swapping out the clock gen IC for something else, which would likely require a...
That could explain why it doesn't start up, but it wouldn't explain why it would lock up after a while. Nevertheless, if you have an oscilloscope and probe, you could test this theory.
If it works perfectly in other computers, it's probably overheating due to the cube's poor airflow. I'd try setting the jumpers for the lowest possible clock speed and seeing if it still locks up.
I'm pretty sure the part of the mod where you move around a bunch of large 0 ohm shunt resistors switches the I/O supply from 3.6V from the regulator to 5V from the PDS since the 601v uses 5v for I/O. I haven't confirmed this myself though. Anyway, I already have a 100MHz card, and can confirm...
I was able to upgrade my Daystar Turbo 601 (PowerPC 601 upgrade for the IIci) from 66MHz to 100MHz!
I followed this guide: http://www.applefool.com/clockchipping/dt601.html.
HOWEVER! I made a few changes...
The above guide overclocks the original PPC601 CPU and does not replace it with a...
It lives! After replacing the fuse, everything is back to normal. Guess I was pretty lucky with this one.
I'm still a little concerned about that linear regulator dropping 12v down to 3.3v; I'm very tempted to have it replaced with a buck converter, but for now I'll just leave it alone.
For...
I'm using an ATX PSU with Pizzigri's custom analog board, so I doubt power will ever be an issue. Cooling may become a problem at one point, though adding a fan shouldn't be too difficult if necessary.
I'm looking to start trying BGA CPU (CBGA 360, CBGA 483, etc.) swaps, but I can't find anyone who makes the right stencils. Does anyone know where to get some? I'm looking for something direct-heat, not just for solder paste.
I found out the issue! I neglected to mention that my 6500 motherboard was being used in a "TAKKY" Color Classic. I forgot to connect the 3.3V rail to my PSU, which was preventing the G3 L2 upgrade from getting any power.
I was totally overthinking things! All three of my cards work just fine.
Yes, I tried resetting the PRAM (with CMD-Option-P-R), as well as the CUDA switch.
I re-pasted my cards and made sure to not overtighten them. However, I did accidentally over-tighten one card in the past, and now I'm afraid I ripped some pads underneath the BGA or something.
I'm beginning to...
I'm currently trying to boost my Power Macintosh 6500 with a Sonnet L2 G3 upgrade, but I can't seem to get any of my *three* units to work. They all crash the computer right before the extension tries to load. I tried both the 2.3.1 and 3.1 driver, and neither work for me.
I followed the Sonnet...
I think I may have found the problem. After inspecting the board, I noticed that the area around the main 3.3V regulator (LT1085) for the 601v looked a bit burnt. I replaced the LT1085 but it didn't make a difference.
I then decided to measure things and noticed that the input to the LT1085 was...
