You’ll need a low profile card or it won’t fit, the VRM is in the way. The second one on your photo will definitely not fit. If you don’t mind less powerful cards, a Radeon 7500, or a (flashed) GeForce 6200 are good options.
I second that, I would not put much faith in old burnt media, especially the rewritable kind! Besides, a backup is only good if you test it regularly. What’s the point of having an archive if you can’t actually read it?
I can confirm that the Apple External Video Connector is strictly for mirroring: tested in a 6400, if I don’t plug a monitor in the usual video output I don’t get any image. My idea was tu use the Apple External Video Connector with a VGA adapter (that I would have mounted internally) in order...
I wish I had discovered this thread before buying and receiving a 32MB EDO SIMM to use in the DOS card… Because it doesn’t work, the PC won’t even boot! I then tested a 16MB FPM SIMM that worked just fine, all 16MB checked during the PC boot phase. So I think it can be confirmed that the DOS...
The DELL UltraSharp 2007FP are great retro monitors: they’re true 4:3 (native resolution is 1600x1200), they have lots of inputs (VGA, DVI, S-video, composite) and most of them (not all unfortunately) have an IPS panel!
I once tried an IDE2SD card in a TAM and it wouldn’t work. I would think that the 5500/6500/TAM has a better IDE implementation, and the problem lies with IDE2SD cards… They are very complex, having to translate IDE commands to SD cards signals, whereas CF cards are natively IDE.
Smaller slot loading optical drives (from laptops) can be used in the Cube. You’ll have to devise some sort of mounting solution (double sided tape can help!). See This thread.
The Cube has special USB ports that can deliver more power than the norm. This is how the official Cube speakers works. So there is plenty of power available, but maybe there is something going wrong in the USB-C power negotiation? I’m afraid there isn’t much that can be done about it, if it...
I’m pretty sure the all-in-one and desktop motherboards are exactly the same. The only difference may be in the wiring harness that connect the edge connector to the different video boards.
I had the same problem, ended up replacing the power connector on the speaker itself! It’s relatively easy to do, just pick a connector that can be screwed on. (I don’t recall the details, it was quite a long time ago, and I don’t have the speakers anymore)
No, you can’t unfortunately. I’ve tried it and it doesn’t work. I think the IDE controller in this line of Performas doesn’t support the master/slave protocol.
