From what I understand, the VDR-2J and VDR-2L are capable of different resolutions other than just 640x480 (as seen by the addition of more clock crystal to control the vertical and horizontal resolution) but I have never had much luck in making it work.
These are all PDS cards for the SE/30; my guess is it different from a nubus BIOS (because of the different kind of expansion slot) but I'm not entirely sure.
Anyways, I have both a -L and a -J versions of these VDR-2 cards; here are the BIOS dumps for them and pictures of their associated cards:
@jasa1063 - I have both an Interware VDR-2a and a VDR-2l; attached is a copy of the BIOS from the VDR-2a. Let me know if you need a copy of the other one as well.
I didn't know that.....thanks for the info! I will admit, that while I have a few BMOW ROMs I mostly use ROMs that I received from Zane....who I guess isn't on the board anymore (I do believe he helped found Tinker Different). I was beta testing them for him...and have been so impressed by...
@jacopodn -that's what the BMOW ROM-inator is for!! You'll definitely love it.
Mode 32 works as well, although I prefer to replace the ROM with a 32-bit clean one.
Agree with what @obsolete said. I have probably half a dozen different kinds of SE/30 ROM SIMMS; if they are stock, they all (at least from what I have seen!) do the same thing. I think it mostly came down to what kinds of chips they could get their hands on at the time to use in them.
Most...
@derFunkenstein You could always get an accelerator for your SE! I was actually beta testing an SE accelerator that was made by @zane, called the "Warp SE"; it is based on a 68000 cpu clocked at 25Mhz. It works great, and is still currently in one of my SE's. Sadly, I haven't heard anything...
Has anyone had any luck getting this card to display on an external monitor? I've tried a few options so far....and not much luck, yet. I've tried directly connecting a monitor to both the VGA port(LCD monitor) and the CGA port (an old Tandy monitor). The Tandy seems to want to work....except...
I know, right?! Every time I have opened up one of these with a Maxell battery, the board is usually a total lose. This was a first for me.
Kinda does, doesn't it? However, every time I encounter a Maxell battery bombed SE/30, the metal chassis is also rusted. I'm just glad it didn't take...
I've had this SE/30 sitting around for a year or so now. I meant to pull out the video card (another Interware VDR-2a) an inspect the motherboard when I got it, but never got around to it until today.
So I was pretty surprised to see that this has a Maxell battery in it.....that hasn't...
That's awesome @Huxley ! When I was a little kid in the '80s, my parents used to work at a computer store that sold Apple/Macs. I still remember playing with a Lisa on the showroom floor! Unfortunately, I can't remember a thing as far as any cool tips or tricks go.
Only thing that I can...
Nice score @robin-fo ! Looks like it is in excellent condition. Did it have any PDS cards (like a video card) in it?
And nice train as well! I guess that, for an American, I am lucky, as the town that I live in (Northampton, Ma) still has a train station in it.
You know, these old compact Macs actually don't use as much electricity as you'd think. I myself always thought that something like a Mac Plus would use somewhere around 100 watts-which isn't completely horrible, especially compared with some of these modern gaming rigs!
But it actually uses...
I know! They are just their for the photo shoot. This is also after I gave the monitors an extensive cleaning; these two were being stored in a dusty garage:
So these were headed for the trash-until I saved them! This is part of a larger haul I got yesterday. At the same place, there is a stack of mostly off-brand CRT monitors....I haven't decided if I am going to take any more of them.
Most amazing to me was to find three unopened boxes of 5...
Unfortunately, this seems to be the case. I check buyee fairly regularly; while there are still some relatively good deal to be had, it has become more like eBay as far as finding some of the great deals that used to be on the site.
@CC_333 - I will probably sell some of the chips here, as I definitely don't need all of them. After that, I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do with them.
I should probably ask @ZaneKaminski if he might be interested in these, now that I think of it. I am one of the beta testers for...
So the school that I work at is in the processes of cleaning the closets out of one of the STEM labs, and they have a mother-load of old DIP chips that they are going to throw out. Including in this lot were two trays of Motorola 68000 CPU's! So of course I had to grab them:
I also grabbed a...
