Isn't though the pinouts of the internal cable different between the sony and the twiggy?
So you couldn't expect to just plug in a 400kb external drive into the rear port
I'm going out on a limb here,
A normal 128k mac has two ROM chips, low and high, that EPROM adapter card on the prototype has four, is it possible that "somehow" it could be setup to use both twiggy and sony floppies?
if that was even possible would you have to call some address (that is...
you may have hit the nail on the head there, look at this folder on the ebay sellers account:
http://adam.trideja.com/Apple%20Computer%20Pics/128k:512k/Proto%20Mac%20128k/
that is the SAME front panel, with the hand written black pen under the bezel
and the image watermarks are from...
Sure, it is overpriced.
I would highly doubt in its current state it is going to sell for anything near that price.
maybe $10,000-20,000 at best
As has been mentioned before it is of huge historical importance, but it is practically useless, without a start up disk to see some prototype...
Something a lot older than System .85,
If you owned this thing you would want to talk to someone like Andy Hertzfeld, he might know of someone that still had some disks for one of these.
Surely there would still be a few of these in the basements of the original design team
Wisful thinking I know

So it would seem if there was a valid OS on a disk it would attempt to load it.
I wonder why the...
There seems to be more pictures shown here than is in the ebay listing:

there is even a 59MB video to watch/download:

There has been Apple FileWare / Twiggy disks on ebay for months from this seller:

The rear case bucket is ether not original to that computer or it has been cleaned and they have not touched the front of the unit. It is highly possible that the computer was upgraded and has recently been downgraded again prior to sale. Many original 128s were upgraded later to Macintosh Plus...
Firstly confirm that it is the logic board, rather than the analog board by swapping it out with the one from your other known working 128 that you mentioned. After you have confirmed this as others have mentioned you can move onto cleaning and inspecting the boards capacitors.
If it comes to...
