    ~llama scores an AV

Yesterday I scored three more machines, two of them 68k's and one of them just plain awesome. I haven't really had a chance to check out the specs on the two 68k's but I know what they are: * Quadra 660AV with AAUI to RJ-45 ethernet adapter * Performa 405 (looks like an LC case--education...

    iBook G4 & Tiger

I have a PowerMac G4 500MHz that runs Tiger well. Before upgrading from Panther, however, I bumped the RAM to 512MB, and I think that's probably made the difference.

    Dell desktops

Back in my day, someone posting about Dells in the "Conquests" forums would've been shot on sight ;) ...but since we're talking about Dells, I've never had one that didn't die on me. Other people seem to have had great luck with them, but not me.

    Radius 81/100

    Ah, that would be it. It's a 110, not a 100. I told you I didn't know anything about them :-p

    Radius 81/100

Is there a good resource for information about these? I just got one, and I guess "radius" followed by numbers is just a bad Google search term. I don't know anything about this machine, other than mine has a boot drive with 8.6 on it :beige:

Differences between the B&W and Yikes! Heatsink

That is true. I always forget the Yikes! doesn't have AGP... but you're chipping a B&W, right?

    A bit older than 68k...

I'm a huge fan of the //c form factor. The handle, the response of the keyboard, etc. I have a //c with the little 9" monochrome monitor.

Differences between the B&W and Yikes! Heatsink

If it worked with the 350 but not with the 400, I'd say the problem is probably with the 400 chip rather than the ZIF or the heatsink. I suppose it could be a problem, but not likely since you already have additional heatsink fans. [EDIT] Really, you may as well get a Sawtooth on eBay--they're...

    ~llama rejoins the party

What Mike Richardson said ;) but it's beside the point because that was just background on how I scored this load of Macs. If it'll make you feel better, I'll edit the post... Reminds me of the Banana Jr. computer from the old comic strip "Bloom County."

    ~llama rejoins the party

Well, comrades, after a long drought (read: parents and then girlfriend thinking I had too many computers) of 68k-hunting, I scored pretty big today. I now work at a computer store. One of our other repair techs ran out of room for old Macs (all of us have 68k collections) and offered me some...

Complete Collection of Every Compact Mac?

FWIW, I have a beige Plus with the text on the front, as well.

    Classic II: Second-best Compact Ever?

I'd say yes if mine didn't have the whistle. Anybody else know what I'm talking about? I know LCGuy does.

The Sound of the SE's Hard Drive

My SE SuperDrive's hard disk makes this sound: " ." Mainly because it won't spin up, and the access light stays on, leaving me with a high density floppy-driven Mac with only 1MB of RAM. Which sucks. I'd trade a loud hard drive noise for my Classic II's...

Complete Collection of Every Compact Mac?

Not a single person has mentioned the SE/30 yet. IMHO it's the ultimate compact Mac.
