I got into single-user, but when I type sh /etc/rc it goes into a blue screen and hangs up. I can't boot from the OS 9 CD, not even holding down option at the firmware prompt. It doesn't recognize the CD as a valid volume.

AWESOME! I JUST DID IT AND CHECKED AND THERE'S NO OF PASSWORD!! About to boot into single-user mode.

iBooks have DIMMS, right? I suppose I'll also have to take out a set number so it has 128MB, right?

I checked it, and there is an open firmware password installed. I guess this means I'm going in!

Thanks, Alk, I'll check it. Also, I don't have access privelages to run FWSucker, so if it does have an OF password, I'll need to physically reset it.

Tried FWSucker, but can't open .sit files. Not enough access privelages. I'll try the OS 9 cd. . .

Well it is a G3. . . my friend has an OS 9 cd. But will OS 9 recognize the wireless card? My friend might want to stay with OS 9. How would I press the button?

I know it does have a wireless card, because I'm surfing at my friend's house on wireless DSL right now.

How do I find out if it has an AirPort Extreme card? The system profiler requires more access privelages than I have.

Actually, I saw this online, and the d@mnde&t thing is it won't boot into single user mode for me. It just loads OS X normally, but thanks for the tip. :-)

Um, anyone know how to install an ethernet card in a Performa 550? I've never actually put anything in a mac internally, and this is my favorite mac, so I don't want to kill it. Thanks.
