    Well, having beaten up freudling's The Elusive PowerBook 550c topic more than I had planned to, (apologies there) I just bit the bullet and purchased a tested known-working M1893 AC Power Adapter on eBay. We'll see what happens... if it turns out to be the "magic" bullet, I may or may not decide...
