    You know, somebody should........

There is zero supply of G4 Zif CPU's for sale, yet there seems to be a good cheap supply of G3 Zif 750's and BGA 7410's. @LightBulbFun @herd One of you guys should look into reworking these for us ZIF folks.

X1950XT vs Radeon X1900GT Mac Edition

So some time ago I bought a PC X1950XT on the cheap and flashed it with a pre-modified FCode ROM and @joevt and I have been playing with a few PCI to PCI-E adapters and some GFX cards. My PCI to PCI-E bridge supports 66MHz operation and in the PCI-X slots of my Dual 2GHz G5 the X1950XT preforms...

Can I power a Yikes Logic Board with a Sawtooth PSU?

Are the Sawtooth PSU's compatible with the Yikes LoBo's without modifications? Also can I just put a Yikes Lobo in a Sawtooth case? Do the screw holes line up? Is the front panel board and plug compatible without modification?

Let's see your best disk speeds( PPC )(68k)

Disk speed is hugely important to responsiveness of the OS and Apps. So Let's see your best disk speeds for PPC and 68k! Lately I've been toying with the LSI SAS controllers the have PPC support in Tiger Server and Leopard, but I also have the Sonnet Tempo ATA100 PATA PCI controller and a...

Killed my Beige( Lobo trouble shooting steps? ).

The Power Supply ticks on when jumped, but no power when connected to the Logic Board. I removed everything from the logic board and power supply but the 20 pin PS to LoBo, ROM SIMM, VRM, and CPU. Logic board is not tripping the PS on. VRM looks good, but I don't know exactly how to test it...

CPU monitoring SW for Mac OS 9?

Is there any SW for monitoring CPU usage for Mac OS 9? Preferably one that can monitor multiple CPU's. There is some mystery to what SW can actually utilize multiple CPU's under the classic Mac OS as well as some secrets of the Apple CPU Plugin found in the Multiprocessor folder. We know...

Got Tiger Server to boot on a Beige G3.

I thought I'd give this a try, I really want to get my SAS cards woking on the Beige G4( G3 ), but only Tiger Server and Leopard have drivers for the LSI SAS cards I have. Had not tried the SAS cards yet, I was able to boot Tiger Server in Safe Mode, but I had to install a patched GeForce 6600...

Interesting find on PCI Bus booting NWM's

People may already have found this and I just did not know about it, but you can boot from a USB device connected to a PCI card in New World Mac's. I haven't tested all my NWM's yet, but I assume it is going to work in others too. On the MDD 867MHz Dual CPU 133Mhz Bus Model I booted Mac OS 9...

DFS mode on the iBook 7447a.

The iBooks that came with the 7447A/B CPU default to booing in DFS-low mode, it's not an issue for 'supported' versions Mac OS X or Linux as they have functioning Power Management, also I assume NetBSD, but I've never tried it. However if you revert to running Mac OS 9 on the iBooks you will...

Any one have a copy of "Throughput"?

There was a Mac OS 9 application called "Throughput" that tested the throughput to the PCI bus. I don't remember, I think it copied from RAM to VRAM and benchmarked the copy speed. Can anyone find a copy of it, please? The file name maybe "Throughput.sit" if you want to search your old drives...

Flashing a PC Voodoo4/5 to Mac( Development )

So today we are going to investigate to see if we can flash a PC Voodoo4 or Voodoo 5 to a Macintosh card suitable for PowerPC PCI systems. I don't own a Voodoo4/5 card and the retro computing realm for the PC has made them prohibitively expensive for me, but if you have such a card and you...

Upgrading the ROM of a PM9600.

So I have a PowerMac 9600 that has a ROM slot, presumably if Apple ever wanted to update the 4MB Boot ROM for these machines and the other Old World Mac's that had the ROM Slot they just needed a ROM Upgrade SIMM. It looks like the Beige G3 ROM SIMM is Pin compatible, so maybe someone that has...

In my hot little hands( Sonnet G4 PCI NIB )

Just received shipment of a brand new old stock Sonnet G4 Crescendo PCI upgrade card for my PowerMac 9600, still in the factory shrink wrap. It's the later revision as it has the 50Mhz fixed frequency oscillator to set the bus speed to 50Mhz. Sonnet used a 45Mhz oscillator for compatibility...

    Mega score!

I snagged a Powermac 9600/300 and a Powermac G3/266 in the original boxes with a ton of boxed software including Photoshop 4.0 and QuarkX. Machines are as near mint as one can expect for hardware this old, pictures coming, very little to no yellowing. I've really been looking to add these two...

Id the internal SCSI bus of the LCII/LCIII support multiple drives?

I had a few LCII and LCIII back in the day, and I'm sure I tested more than one drive on the internal 50pin SCSI bus, but I can't remember if it worked?

    Score, PPC!

I normally don't check my local craigslist, but I've been looking for another Quicksilver to do a PC conversion with my son this summer. Only PowerMac listed was an iMac G3 Blueberry "PowerMac". I was thinking that he just didn't know what to call the iMac, so I almost didn't click on the ad...
