I picked up an Olivetti OD-810 drive with some cartridges and have been trying to get it working with something. I don’t have an install disk or software. Anyone have any knowledge of this drive?
I tried with several Macs and either they can’t see it or they hang.
On the Apple II the Apple...
I’m a little confused
I hauled an 8600 with a 450mhz G3 card out of my storage locker. It had a Sonnet SATA card connected to a SD card adapter. This setup was a little faster than the built-in SCSI but not a lot. So I connected the SATA card to a real SSD. With MacBench it showed as being 4...
While deciding what to bring to I retro computer meet I came across my IIci. It booted up nicely but I noticed something was off. The time wasn’t correct but it also wasn’t the default. After a bit of disassembly I found it still had the original battery. Still putting out 2.6v. I guess I missed...
I haven’t done much with the Apple II this spring and was looking for something to try. I was thinking that one of the rectangular ADB mice would look interesting on a II+.
I have a couple of different USB adapters for the mouse card and I also have a couple of adapters for ADB to USB. The only...
Last night while looking in a box I saw the bag of mice I keep handy and decided to clean the rollers. Some I’d done before but a fair number I hadn’t. All went all except a couple of Japanese M0100. The gunk really stuck to the steel rollers. I scraped the thick stuff off but I’m not the...
I’ve seen pics of these small hard drives on focus cards a few times. I’m interested in finding out which hard drive it is but I’ve had no luck searching
I’m looking for the Apple II Utilities disk for the Quark Peripherals QC-10/20 hard drive. Hoping someone here either has it or might know where to find it.
One of my Color Classics had some powerup issues. Tried a different Logic board but that wasn’t it so I decided to recap the analog board. I didn’t have all the parts but decided to replace what I had while waiting for the rest to arrive. Since there were a number of the same caps used I...
I found info on KM41C1000AP-8 easily but am having a hard time finding anything on the Sanyo LC321000P-80
Does anyone know if LC321000P-80 and KM41C1000AP-8 are interchangeable?
I’ve had a MacOS issue for a while. I use a number of Lacie and Promise drives with software RAID. With any OS later than 10.10, when I restart the Mac all the windows on those drives are closed. Single drives are fine. I’ve been wanting to upgrade the OS because there’s new video codecs coming...
I’ve been printing plastic labels with a Brother label printer and paper labels with a Dymo LabelWriter 450. All was good but then I was looking at the Dymo LabelWriter 450 Duo which had 2 parts to it, one for paper and the other for plastic. I got interested because it’d do graphics on the...
I had a Vulcan card using a CF adapter stop working. I first tried a known working CF with no luck then I swapped CF adapters with another Vulcan. Turns out that the adapter wasn’t functioning. Put in my spare but it didn’t work either. It’s a duplicate of the first bad one. So I decided to...
I have a PCIe expansion box that would hold up to 19 cards but it has very few installed. There’s some large noisy fans in it. I’m thinking that with only a few cards I don’t need anything like that amount of cooling. Unfortunately I can’t see any way to unplug one and if I clip the wire it’ll...
A while ago I picked up a Lacie S2S 5 drive RAID array. It was originally meant to connect to a Lacie eSATA card but worked well with a USB 3.0 adapter. Unfortunately 2.5tb was way too small to be useful. At the time I had some 1tb drives and upgraded to 5tb, still a little small. Just yesterday...
Had an interesting occurrence. On powering up a IIgs the video was grainy. Turns out I was getting only 2 volts on one of the 12v pins. Swapped in a spare and video was normal. All the caps and everything look ok. I guess it’s time to upgrade the power supply.
Picked up a 20 slot expansion box for my 5,1 Mac Pro. Actually two expansion boxes but only one one interface card for the Mac Pro. One Stop Systems Max Express. A little loud with 3 large internal fans. Thought about disconnecting 1 or 2 fans as I can’t see myself ever filling it but the way...
A nine year old kid I take care of a lot said he’d like to try one of those computers with the big keys. I was unsure what he meant so I showed him a pic of a IIe. Whereupon he said “That’s the one”. So I brought over a IIe with mouse, joystick, DuoDisk and ColorMonitor IIe. All the kids...
A Profile drive let out a huge amount of smoke. Opened it up and in the power supply I found four rifa caps. Three were the same size as in Apple II power supplies. The bad one was several times that size. Wondering why so many and about the big one.
Collectorism is threatening again.
Shelled out $5 for an Apple II cassette yesterday. I normally only buy items I'll use not items to look at. I rarely play games but to avoid feeling like a collector I guess I'll have to dig out a cassette player and try one of the games.
