Hi group.
I'd like to start doing some more work on my Powerbook 3400. My intent is to make it into a triple boot (if not triple, dual boot) machine with:
Mac OS
Linux
NetBSD (if I can get triple boot; Linux is priority)
Biggest bottleneck on the machine is the hard drive (both in terms of...
Purchased a PowerBook 160 off of eBay of unknown condition as a project piece, and also because I wanted a grayscale PB.
The unit did not come with a power brick, so I am using the brick from my PowerBook 165c. When I boot the machine:
I get the dong
Screen turns on
I can hear something...
Hi.
Now that I have started to use my 3400 on a more regular basis, I have been noticing many software problems; probably due to whatever the previous owner had installed/hacked with before I took it over. I'd like to do a fresh install of 7.6.1. At my disposal are:
System 7.6 install CD...
Pending my giving away of a 165c, I have three PowerBook's left, and I have to get rid of at least one system for space reasons.
PowerBook 3400c/200 with CD-ROM and Floppy modules
PowerBook Duo 2300c with three docs:
Minidock
Floppy MIcrodock
Ethernet Microdock
PowerBook 1400c with CD-ROM...
I recenty acquired a PowerBook 1400C with a Dayna Communicard. I've managed to source the drivers from the Macintosh Driver Museum, and the software installs fine. But when I insert the card, I get a message, "the correct software you need to use your pc card is not installed".
Some notes...
I recently purchased a serial trackball which reportedly works on a compact Mac. Took it out of the box and the trackball has a 9-pin female connector, not male as I was expecting.
I'm wondering if this was from a PC now. The trackball in question is a MicroSpeed PC-Trac.
Any ideas if this...
After much hacking, and perusing a few sites (Jags House, Old Macintosh System Software and TCP/IP and Classic Mac Networking) I've managed to get my Mac Plus up on the internet, kinda.
An odd thing though: I can ping other computers on my LAN, and even outside of my LAN (e.g. google.com), but...
While not 68k related, I did pick up a 9500 with a whole slew of external SCSI storage (Exabyte tape drive, DAT tape drive, Jazz drive and two zip drives) and a 19" LaCie CRT monitor for free of of the local Freecycle!
68k related, I finally found original copies of Inside Macintosh. I've been...
I've been offered a PowerBook 100, but neither of us knows how much it was worth. I've been scavenging Low End Mac and m68kmla but haven't found any good price comparisons.
Does anyone know what a PB100 with 20MB HD and floppy would be worth nowadays?
Thanks.

I've got a PowerBook 165c that, except for the case, functions reasonably well. I purchased a battery for it a few years ago and it gets about an hour on a full charge, and is a great bridge machine between my desktop (G5) and my Macintosh Plus. :D
But, the case is crap. I literally screwed...
My Mac Plus won't eject floppies, unless I use a paper clip and the "manual eject" hole. Does anyone know where the problem may lie? Would I need a whole new floppy mechanism, or is it possible this one can be salvaged?
If the former, does anyone know where I might find one? I've also got an...
Some background..
For the past few weeks I've been tinkering with a Mac Plus I found in a back alley somewhere near my work. I've managed to get System 6.0.8 installed on it, the "necessary" applications (NCSA Telnet, Fetch FTP, various tools for decompressing/converting .hqx/.bin/.sit files...
