As I’m working on an SE/30 reloaded board, a few questions have arisen, If anyone would like to offer any knowledge or advice, I’d appreciate it.
1] U32 Crystal Oscillator (see pic) appears to be polarized based on the silkscreen on the board? As I was cleaning the parts, the writing on the top...
What would be the best way to test a glue chip from my sadly battery bombed SE/30 to see if:
A) the corrosion which has been cleaned off was enough to destroy it. Looks OK visually..
B) I didn't kill it with my heat gun trying to remove it.
Thanks for any help. All I have is a multimeter but...
I've got a USB drive with a 10.4 Tiger image.
It works fine as an install for my Power Mac G4 MDD.
Trying to format and install tiger on a new SSD in the PowerBook G4 but the USB disc does not show up at all.
It doesn't show up in open firmware mode either under "dev / ls" but as stated, it...
Hi,
Is there any hack that would allow a Powerbook G4 12" to boot natively into OS9? Maybe like a reverse XPostFacto utility?
Thanks for any info,
Steve
I have a 1.44mb Drive from an SE FDHD that is acting strangely (I also have a spare 800k that I could take some parts from). I'm pretty familiar with tearing the drives down and yes, the cheese cog has been replaced.
Symptoms -
The GOOD:
- Eject mechanics are working perfecto...Drive is lubed...
Mine works but is kind of dim (brightness buttons are unresponsive) and there's also an occasional vertical line.
I see a few videos on YouTube about replacing motherboards but I don't see the point of replacing old failing components with other old potentially failing components.
I'm pretty...
is there a resource somewhere that tells us exactly what goes wrong with these power supplies when they fail? I would much prefer to repair mine if and when it goes rather than try to replace it. I've already replaced one. Thanks for any help.
I found something suspicious in my ROM socket (see photo). the board chimes and boots fine but I get no video at all - total blackout. I've been going through potential issues in the video circuit. Is it possible that this is the cause?
I'm trying to understand video issues more clearly.
I have an SE/30 board and it chimes and seems to boot, but there is no video output. Occasional static, but usually just completely dark. No simasimac just a blackout with occassional static (see attached video).
It is my understanding that if...
I was wondering if there was a best practice for this? How common is it for this to cause continuity issues on the board? i've checked a few and so far no problems.
