    Anyone have an SE speaker?

I personally wouldn't put a clear 8 ohm speaker in place of the original, aside from tech specs, the original looks better in a clear case and otherwise I don't want to alter the original timbre. I don't think I've seen anyone replace or refurbish the surround of these particular speakers, but...

    Reverse Engineering the MacSnap SCSI

Very nice! I have been intrigued by this card for a long time.

Future Project Idea: Expansion Spelunx Rooms

I've also thought about this, and lead to the idea that the easiest way to do it would be to graft certain parts of Cosmic Osmo into expansion rooms. Those two games have the most similar artistic style vs. any of the others. It would be cool if they would release the stuff that never made it to...

    Macintosh SE/30 Upgrades (Early Christmas)

@jmacz That's good to hear. I was looking at the analog board while taking some measurements... One thing I saw is the voltage drop at the disk molex connector cable end is not as much as the drop from the PSU connector to the logic board. Also, I didn't see much of any drop (under load) from...

    Macintosh SE/30 Upgrades (Early Christmas)

The connector on the board is a DFA and reliability trade-off. If you solder directly to the board, it's recommended to crimp a terminal on the wire before soldering it since the solder weakens the copper strands at the joint. I'm doing some testing of an unrelated design where I solder stranded...

    Macintosh SE/30 Upgrades (Early Christmas)

@jmacz That's an epic SE/30 build! Thanks for the shout-out and the trade, it's cool to see the power supply board out in the wild. Your machine features so many hardware projects from different builders in the community. I have the same compact homebrew ZuluSCSI, and I am of similar mind about...

SE/30: RAM configuration with 16MB SIMMs

I just ran into this issue of testing a machine with 4x16 MB SIMMs / stock ROM and getting sad Mac chimes with the VRAM herringbone screen pattern. I didn't realize they were 16MB SIMMs but I also don't remember all the nuances of SE/30 RAM configs. But one thing I found in my troubleshooting is...

    Macintosh SE w/ Radius FPD

Agreed, very nice setup. The FPD takes me back. Did anyone figure out how to connect to a Radius or Apple FPD to a modern display?

Classic II and external 5.25 floppy drive.

Sounds like probably any of the Apple 3.5" floppy drives which would be 800k and 1.44MB (400k is rare) and not any of the 5.25" drives except special 3rd party drives.

Recapped SE/30 logic board suddenly died (no video, dark screen, no boot chime, speaker click)

Thanks for the tip! I sucked out the old solder for the connector pins on the bottom and added new solder and it started working again. Before that, the connector solder joints looked fine and I tried applying some pressure on the cable harness but still no signs of life.

Introducing scuzEMU, a SCSI Emulator Utility

@saybur scuzEMU looks like it will be very handy to use. Thanks for your work on this project!

Recapped SE/30 logic board suddenly died (no video, dark screen, no boot chime, speaker click)

I did some searching, but I thought I would check to see if this is a categorized failure mode for troubleshooting. I had recapped this logic board, and it had been running well. It was an SE/30 that I took to Mactoberfest last year and had been a reliable machine. One night while running it...

SE/30 - Design for Drop in Replacement Power Supply

This is cool to see! I may be in the market for a new PSU, but need to do some troubleshooting to be sure. I have a spare Seasonic, but I am not sure if I should do another conversion since I think I saw some complaints about it a while back. I am wondering if you are thinking of providing a DIY...

    Netatalk 2.3.0 available

The OS is Dietpi based on Debian Bullseye. I checked and found I actually installed the main branch, so I probably should remove netatalk.

    Netatalk 2.3.0 available

I just installed the previous version, but I haven't yet configured or run the install. How should an update be done? Can I install over the existing version or does it need to be uninstalled? What configure flags should be used for someone interested in networking 68k machines? I followed an...

    Recovering a bad floppy disk?

@bigmessowires Thanks for this detailed info on the possible structure of the floppy and offer to help extract files from the disk! I'll see if Copy II Mac can read the disk. I may also end up trying a Greasweasel, but not sure if it is worth the potential rabbit hole of getting into that...

    Apple prototype ROM flasher utility

Interesting, so it sounds like a theoretical PDS ROM flasher board could potentially work with the earlier LC machines with some tweaks to the Flasher software. No worries about the replica Lobos boards! This project randomly came to mind earlier today and it was a nice surprise to see an update...

    Apple prototype ROM flasher utility

Insane work on the PDS card. That is an exciting proposition to have a retro machine being able to serve as a ROM programmer. Would it also work with an 030 LC III? I am not super familiar with the LC series PDS variations.

    Recovering a bad floppy disk?

Are there any native 68k apps that archive a disk similar to a Greaseweazle with the original hardware? I tried running Norton Utilities and a couple other tools, but they want the disk to be unlocked. I am hesitant to unlock the disk and potentially ruin the disk further. It would be great if...

    Recovering a bad floppy disk?

Any advice for methods for recovering a floppy disk that is no longer readable? I came across an old disk that says it has some files, likely from my first hard drive. It was likely written to with a Mac Plus and stored indoors in a cabinet with some cassette tapes. I tried reading the disk in a...
