PowerBook reverse engineering for fun and no profit

Smart! I wouldn't have thought of that! I am wondering, it sounds like the display has the same pinout as the Portable, so would a adapter for the Portable work on the Powerbook?

PowerBook reverse engineering for fun and no profit

This is so cool! I can't wait to see more! Why did you decide to start with the display first?

LCD Replacement for the Macintosh Portable

Do these HDMI traces look like they are run good? I think they will be okay. The Maximum length difference between traces is 66mils and it should have 100ohm of differential impedance.

LCD Replacement for the Macintosh Portable

Does anyone have a 3d scanner and has the ability to scan the bezel for the lcd on the portable? Because otherwise the screen is going to be tiny! I am also asking for power consumption reasons.

LCD Replacement for the Macintosh Portable

Alright, the schematic is coming together. I've changed it so many times now!

LCD Replacement for the Macintosh Portable

Great! It'll make the adapter PCB and the controller PCB much smaller too! I just wanted to know if it was a good idea.

LCD Replacement for the Macintosh Portable

Thanks! That would have been awesome to collaborate with him. He seems to have a lot of knowledge about the portable compared to me, but unfortunately I don't have a good way to contact him. On a side note, do you have a good idea on what type of cable I should use to take the odd connector...

LCD Replacement for the Macintosh Portable

No... I just follow his github. If I knew I would tell you. Mine will hopefully be in the same state as his in about a week or 2. If you can wait that long I can give you the pcb gerber and BOM, or if he posts his as finished on GitHub before mine is finished you could probably build it.

LCD Replacement for the Macintosh Portable

https://github.com/rezafouladian/PortableVideoAdapter He's doing it to! If you scroll all the way to the bottom you'll see it.

LCD Replacement for the Macintosh Portable

Hmmmm, Maybe, I am going to finish this one first though. But if I do get a powerbook 2300c I will probably try to help it to! :)

LCD Replacement for the Macintosh Portable

Unfortunately, I know nothing of coding and ran into a little bit of a snag. If anybody could help me that would be heavenly! I have the HDMI plug on the top of the PCB with everything else but the pinout of the lcd doesn't line up with the pinout of the library that comes with the Waveshare...

LCD Replacement for the Macintosh Portable

Look! It all FITS!!!!!! Thats that, we'll just print the pcb and viola!... (JOKINGLY TONE) No suriously, that is the max pcb size that can fit in the portable's lcd bezel! Now all I have to do is figure out where and how to route traces...

Portable LCD dims, but evenly all over

@techknight said over on Tinkerdifferent exact quote: " Tunnelvision. Shes cooked. This is becoming increasingly common. Gonna need to do a screen mod. SuperSVGA published his Pico to HDMI Adapter open-source, and i think its basically the same as what Androda did while his was VGA. "

    Lubricating Powerbook 1xx hinges

I would try white lithium grease or sewing machine oil (or machine oil like it).

LCD Replacement for the Macintosh Portable

Now that I have a rough sketch of the pcb I get into the nitty gritty... WAITING for the Waveshare RP2350 PiZero to show up so that I can take measurements. In the meantime, I will be making the schematic for the Waveshare RP2350 PiZero and (crossing my fingers) hoping I can incorporate it into...

LCD Replacement for the Macintosh Portable

Hmm, I guess you're right. I found a trace length difference calculator. The traces can supposedly be off by a little less then 1500mm... Thank you for making me double check!

LCD Replacement for the Macintosh Portable

Does anyone know why there are grounds and vcc connected to A pins but nothing connected to B pins on the top IC for the A pins? Can I remove one of the grounds to move a D0 to the top IC?
