2011 AMD Mac mini - Not working out the way I had hoped . . .

The fan is already running at basically full speed I don't think theres much more that can be done fan-wise. Also I think I may have already installed it. I think last time I was messing around with it, I was trying to figure out of it was the CPU or GPU or both that was causing it to instantly...

2011 AMD Mac mini - Not working out the way I had hoped . . .

So I had a 2010 Mac mini with an nVidia 320m GPU. I put a small SSD in it, installed High Sierra and windows 7, I put GTA Vice City and San Andreas and GTA3 on the pc side, and OpenEMU and all the ROMs on the Mac side. It makes a great retro games machine. Oh I also play via a PS4 controller...

A Challenge: Plastic Macbooks for July

Well I'm not going to play this game. But I will give you a hint (and no i haven't read the post so someone else may have already said this, but...) A Mr Clean Magic Eraser will make the grosses white plastic MacBook look like brand spanking new again! I've seen it with my own eyes many times...

    SCSI to SATA?

LOL what a bargain hahaha https://www.ebay.com/itm/234839229356 That, plus the IDE to SATA adapter, does sound like the best option for me, assuming they were easy to find on the cheap AND were reliable. But I don't even have the Mac yet, this is all just half-ideas at this point.

    SCSI to SATA?

TO clarify, when I said "low power" server, I didn't mean power consumption (although hopefully that would be low-ish too), I meant low CPU power.

    SCSI to SATA?

What are people doing these days to put SATA drives in old 68K Macs that only have internal SCSI? In my PowerMac 7300, I just put an IDE PCI card in there, then use a cheapo IDE to SATA inline board to run that machine off of a 2.5" SATA laptop style drive. A drive that is dirt slow in a...

    Sonnet SATA card in G4

HAH thats so funny. I wish the customer wanted to keep trying to get it to work, because I really wanted to see this old G4 boot in 9 seconds. As for me, in my own retro Mac, I have a 7300 with a PCI IDE sonnet card, and a 2.5" SATA hard drive connected to a single drive SATA to IDE adapter...

    Sonnet SATA card in G4

I had this same problem with my Xserve. SATA3 drives just won't work. Or SATA 2 either. SATA 3 desktop drives usually let you jumper down to SATA 2 but not 1. SATA 2 lets you jumper down to SATA 1, so i had to buy some old stock WD drives to run in htere. My next server sadly won't be a Mac but...

    Sonnet SATA card in G4

This Mac is running Panther, not OS 9. And the card kind of worked. After the down-flash, the card worked with a hard drive. But the SSD wouldn't work. In the end, the customer has happy with the hard drive as long as it worked. But I wonder what would happen if we bought a bunch more, different...

    Sonnet SATA card in G4

Today I installed a sonnet SATA PCI card in a G4 powermac. Then I installed a samsung SATA card. The sonnet card is known to be bootable so I though this had a real good chance of working. The card was acting wonky. Turns out its a known issue where G4s need the card's firmware reverted. I did...

    G4 Mac mini

Reading the title of this post, it feels like someone forgot there was a G4 Mac mini too :D Speaking of, this is really a price check post. How much do you think this old one I have might be worth? 1.25 GHz G4, 512 MB of RAM, 40 GB Hard Drive, Power cable and brick included. Boots up and runs...

    Performa 550 vs Macintosh TV

So a very long time ago, when I was a wee little 14 year old, I was getting my first "modern" computer. The choice ended up being between a Performa 550 or a Macintosh TV. BTW for those curious, this was up at the ComputerTown store in Salem New Hampshire. Anyway, I was a young teen with his...

    A SMART utility for PPC?

Turns out older versions of SMART Utilty itself do run on PPC and thats the vrsion i have installed on my Tiger utility volume so i guess i don't really have any problem after all.

    A SMART utility for PPC?

Anyone know a SMART disk checking utility for OS X, that runs on PPC? I've been using SMART Utility for years, but it looks like that is Intel only. I have a few old PPC Macs that I want to verify have no bad blocks.

Is it possible to make modern replica PowerPC Macs?

I was thinking about "modern old Macs" tonight too before I found this thread. However I was thinking an entirely different approach. Basically the ability to run system 7, os 8 and os 9 natively (aka boot up) on a late model PPC, like a G4 Mac mini. That would be perfect for me. No more huge...

    MegaFiler Documents

Some mistaken updates but here's an accurate update: OS 9 wouldn't run the .sea to open the app but older versions did. So I have what looks like the megafiler app on system 7.5, the oldest OS I have. But when I go to open it, it asks me to insert the original MegaFiler disk. I of course have...
