I'll throw in another vote for 7.6.1; 8.1 is a bit much for any 68k aside from a late quadra; you're really better off sticking with System 7. Faster, and still does 99% of the things System 8 will do.

Awesome! I love the Classic II; it's a great little machine. Best thing I can suggest is to slap the full 10 megs of RAM in there, load 'er up with System 7.1, and watch it fly! If you *really* wanna go for extreme speed, find System 6.0.8L and stand back.

G4s in (most) any form are great machines. I'm still rocking out with a dual 500MHz G4 tower as my main desktop, happily chugging away at Leopard. My main portable is also a PowerBook G4, running Leopard like a little champ. So yes, I'd say you can expect a good, long life from your G4. Enjoy :D

The antennas on the PBG4 depend on whether it's a TiBook or an AlBook. The Titanium PowerBooks had the antennas in the body of the machine, and all the Aluminum PowerBooks had them under little plastic cutouts on the sides of the screen.

Yes, you can. However, as has been mentioned, it will only work as an 800k drive. I replaced the original 800k mechanism in my SE with a superdrive (I've got a gazillion hanging around) and it's been working just peachy :)
