Success! I updated the firmware, then used LeopardAssist. It took a bit longer than expected (almost an hour), but it's running Leopard now. Currently it's installing updates.

I thought I did that years ago. I'll try the firmware update when I get home from work.

Initially it was a single 400mhz processor. Later I replaced it with a dual G4/450 from a gigabit.

It's got the bog standard ATI Rage 128 video card in it, a Western Digital 80GB IDE hard disk, and a generic DVD+-RW drive. As far as I know it has the most recent firmware, but I'll check again when I get home.

Picked up an older HP Vectra. Not for the machine itself, which didn't work, but for its memory. It had 3 512MB PC133 DIMMs in it. They are now in my dual G4/450 for a total of 1.75GB. Not bad for $10!

I've messed with a PC-4 and owned a PC-7. The PC-4 is much nicer hands down. Trying to type on the membrane keyboard that was in alphabetical order instead of QWERTY sucked.

I don't have it in my possession yet. I saw it in a junk bin at the local flea market and wanted to see if I could get it to power on and show something on the screen before making an offer. It looks to be in pretty good shape considering its age.

I found a 5300ce at the flea market without a power supply. What is the voltage and amperage required for it? I have a couple of power supplies for the Lombard and Wallstreet II models, but they don't fit.

I would check to see if it was set to Master or Slave. I have a CF-IDE adapter for laptops that strangely sets itself up for Slave mode on my Wallstreet II. I used a different adapter and it worked. Weird.

I messed around with it on the G4 last week. So far so good, but I didn't do too much with it to stress test the program.

I found an academic version of Illustrator CS for the Mac at a nearby thrift store for $3. It goes along nicely with the copy of Toast 5 and Photoshop 7 I found from there a few months ago. :) I just hope it runs well on a dual G4/450.
