    galgot's "new" stuff

That external drive enclosure also looks like a Newer Technology one too.  Unfortunately I don't have the model number handy.

Mine ran XP or Linux.  Never tried OS X on them.

    Raoul Duke's Gonzo Adventures

I had several of those Aspire One netbooks at one time in the past.  The last one was pink (I'm secure in my manhood :) ) that I gave to my niece.  They weren't bad but memory capacity definitely was not one of their strong points.  That and having to disassemble it to the chassis and remove...

Finally found a use for my iBook G4 :/

Never mnid. :) I found a Newer Technology drive enclosure initially meant for a Mac Mini.  I put the hard drive in there and just accessing it on the Ubuntu box is so much faster than it ever was - even through USB - on the NAS enclosure.  Now to figure out how to share it to Windows and Mac...

Finally found a use for my iBook G4 :/

I reset the BIOS on the Bay trail machine and it now has Ubuntu 14.04 installed and sharing its wifi connection over ethernet.  I tried Linux Mint Mate 17.1 but couldn't find a simple way to do it on that release of Linux. This evening I have been playing Diablo II on the iBook. :)   I finally...

Finally found a use for my iBook G4 :/

While I have the Bay Trail machine working again I may either leave the iBook there or try my Lombard to see if it can handle sharing its connection since either of them would take up less space. So far there doesn't appear to be any lag using the shared connection versus using a USB wi-fi...

Finally found a use for my iBook G4 :/

About two weeks ago I switched from Roadrunner to U-Verse.  The modem for Roadrunner was in my office, while the modem for U-Verse was in my living room and on the opposite side of the house. After buying (and returning) and router/range extender/access point I looked at what hardware I had in...

Whats happened to my iBook G4?

I booted a Lubuntu 14.04 DVD and it looked a lot like the initial image.  The menu bar and the icons on the desktop looked okay but the background was gibberish.

Whats happened to my iBook G4?

My iBook asked for a mouse with a 10.4 install disc.  10.5 didn't ask.

    Wierd issue with iBook G4

I've been using my iBook G4 1.33ghz off and on lately and noticed something odd when booting 10.4.11.  While it has been connected to my home wifi before it always starts with it not being connected.  I always have to select the network I can use it. With 10.5 it automatically connects. Any...

Powerbook G3 Lombard 10.4 Wireless card

The model is TEW-421PC. Hardware revision is C1.0R. In the original post it worked on my home and work wireless networks. At my new job it connects but does not get an IP address. The work wireless is using WPA2-TKIP. Didn't know if it was related to the card or the OS.

    Quicksilver G4 - worth it?

To eject the drive using Open Firmware: Command-Opt-O-F eject cd mac-boot When you are starting from scratch MacOS 9 or X isn't on there yet so you can't eject using a menu item. The dual 867mhz modules are pretty cheap - $10-15.

    Quicksilver G4 - worth it?

I have to admit it's rather speedy compared to my dual G4/450. Currently I have two 40GB hard drives in it - one with Tiger and one with Leopard. I have a 200GB and a 250GB I could use but I need to back up with is on them first. What is the fastest dual-processor module that will work in...

    Quicksilver G4 - worth it?

I got it and I have a question. How do you eject the DVD drive if you don't have an Apple keyboard? I tried the mouse button without success.

    Quicksilver G4 - worth it?

I'm not a big fan of it either. The recycling center is run by the county as part of the "convenience center" - AKA a place to drop off your trash - and doesn't have a building to offer things for sale.

    Quicksilver G4 - worth it?

I'll work on the price next weekend. Considering I'm not supposed to pick up anything over 20 pounds for a couple of weeks (recovering from hernia surgery) I'm not in a rush to get it right now. It's the first time that I have seen a Quicksilver at the booth. There were some Sawtooth G4s, a...

    Quicksilver G4 - worth it?

Yes. Not sure which one. Didn't see a fan or an ATI logo on it.

    Quicksilver G4 - worth it?

Yesterday at the flea market I found a Quicksilver G4/867 with memory and a hard drive. I don't know the amount of memory or the size of the hard drive, only that they are installed. They want $35 for it. Currently I have a Sawtooth G4/450 dual processor with 1.75GB memory and I'm debating on...

Powerbook G3 Lombard 10.4 Wireless card

I have a TrendNet-based card in mine, but I haven't used it in a while. The chipset on it is a Realtek RTL8185. While 10.4 doesn't support it out of the box Realtek has drivers for it on its web site. Once those are installed it works quite well.
