    A trash can.... Mac :)

I have no clue what the specs were. I just tightened them all together until they felt like they did when trying to take them off. If the torque is that important, I do have an itty-bitty torque socket driver for 1/4” sockets. I think I have only used it when tightening the transmission pan...

    A trash can.... Mac :)

Success! Honestly I thought the CPU upgrade was going to be harder than it actually was. Given how many laptops I have repaired over the years, working on the Mac Pro was downright easy. 😁 I have not reapplied the thermal paste on the GPUs yet since I wanted to make sure the processor upgrade...

    A trash can.... Mac :)

I haven't upgraded the SSD yet (still the original 512GB unit), but would like to later with an adapter. Wouldn't mind trying WIndows 10 via Bootcamp, but will wait until the processor upgrade is complete and a larger SSD is in place. MacOS and Windows feel a little cramped when both are on a...

    A trash can.... Mac :)

The 12-core Xeon processor for the Mac Pro arrived today. However, I’m out of heat sink compound. I ordered another tube and will work on it over the weekend. I know the computer was upgraded from a quad-core to the 6-core processor since the seller sent the original processor...

    A trash can.... Mac :)

I have moved the Mac Pro into my home office. Now I should be able to do more productive things with it.

    A trash can.... Mac :)

It’s not really pouring money into it, more like a trickle. 😁 Found the 12-core Xeon processor on eBay for $25, so I snagged it. I’m using the Mac Pro, sadly doing the same thing I did with the HP t740 thin client: playing games, web browsing, and watching YouTube videos. If it weren’t...

    A trash can.... Mac :)

I was also thinking if you were writing cross-platform applications and required a Mac with Xcode to compile the MacOS/iOS/tvOS versions, then a cheap Mac Pro that doesn’t take much space would do nicely. I have tried this with my i5 2012 Mac Mini. While it worked, the Mac Mini was a bit...

    A trash can.... Mac :)

The second Mac Pro arrived this afternoon. It was an upgraded quad-core model and has the D300 GPUs. However, the fan works! It also works with the 64GB memory upgrade I purchased for the first one.

    A trash can.... Mac :)

It has been boxed up and dropped off at the Post Office. God speed Mac Pro, and may you return to the seller swiftly. In the meantime, the replacement I purchased is still listed as “Tracking Available” on eBay - 6 days after purchase. Apparently the post office it was dropped off at was...

    Durosity’s conquests and collection

It's a science fiction parody movie by Mel Brooks. Primarily parodies Star Wars, but I'm sure there are other sci-fi franchises it mocks. :) Made in 1987, and it shows.... https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094012/mediaviewer/rm1040754689/

    More pico-mac stuff

Many years ago I had many 68k Macs. I also lived with my parents in a mobile home, so there wasn’t much room. In the end I gave them away to someone who could use them (I think it was TechKnight). I have only owned a single 68k PowerBook, a Duo of some sort. Can’t remember the model.

Until it isn’t. It is still crashing partway through the install. Well the important thing was to remove my account, which has been done.

    A trash can.... Mac :)

It appears I had the fan blowing in the wrong direction. Now that the fan is blowing up the Mac Pro appears to be stable.

    A trash can.... Mac :)

I didn’t remove the original fan, since I’m returning it. I did wipe the drive, but powered it off when it got too warm and the display went dark. Not sure how far along the installation has progressed. I even sealed it on the bottom with painter’s tape since it doesn’t leave residue. I’ll...

    A trash can.... Mac :)

The fan seems to be doing its job - warm air is coming out the bottom.

    A trash can.... Mac :)

The seller wants me to return it, so a return has been initiated. It’s rather sad since the 64GB memory upgrade arrived today. I found another 6-core unit online and purchased it since it was cheaper and still works. Here is what I’m doing for this one while I do Internet Restore on it. The...

    A trash can.... Mac :)

Mine was $229. Went with the 6-core unit since the 12-core ones were more expensive. No boiling water for me, but Chinese eBay sellers have the 12-core CPU for about $25. :)

    A trash can.... Mac :)

I added Macs Fan Control to it to set the fan to start at a slower speed. However, with the fan not spinning it reports an RPM of 0, even when the app is set to run the fan full blast. Bought another precision screwdriver set with every bit needed for this computer and others.

    A trash can.... Mac :)

I started to work on it to see what was up with the fan, but in the process part of the tip of my T5 Torx bit broke off. Almost didn’t get it back together.
