Benchmarking the TwinTurbo 128MA (REV 3.7) + using it on other PCI Macs

Side question: what do we know about TT hardware, especially the 2D accelerator IC? Is there any developer documentation (white paper) for the chip?

Benchmarking the TwinTurbo 128MA (REV 3.7) + using it on other PCI Macs

@jessenator The TT Macintosh card has the built-in ROM that contains two drivers: a FCode one for running under OpenFirmware as well as a native PPC driver to control the card under Mac OS. I'm not sure if the latter implements 2D acceleration. AFAIK the card won't work in a Mac without proper...

Power Macintosh 7200 MB hi-res photos

Please find attached the annotated PM 7200 logic board. Kudos to @MrFahrenheit and @demik for providing the hi-res pictures as well as useful infos.

Power Macintosh 7200 MB hi-res photos

@MrFahrenheit U12 is indeed the Ethernet MAC PROM. The marking of the Motorola IC below the CPU is very blurry. I can't read it...

Power Macintosh 7200 MB hi-res photos

@MrFahrenheit I can't read the markings of the following ICs (marked with the yellow circle): The former must be a clock generator for the CPU while the latter is presumably the Ethernet MAC ROM. Can you tell me what's written on their packages?

@MrFahrenheit Crisp & clear images. Thank you a lot!

Power Macintosh 7200 MB hi-res photos

@Plasticoat The resolution and the lightning are great! Everything is perfectly readable. Many thanks for sharing it with us!👍

Power Macintosh 7200 MB hi-res photos

@MrFahrenheit The most important criteria for me is the ability to read component markings. iPhone cameras, especially in the latest models, are known to produce high-res photos. Would you mind giving it a try?

Power Macintosh 7200 MB hi-res photos

Hi crews, does anyone have high-resolution pictures (3000 px and higher) of the Power Macintosh 7200 motherboard ready to share? I'm thinking about providing annotated photos for various Power Macintosh logic boards. Annotations should help to identify various (AS)ICs as well as the existing...

Monitor identification over the built-in video port on Beige G3

TL;DR Did someone who owns a Beige G3 managed to connect a DDC capable monitor to the built-in video card? Long story: I'm currently writing an emulator for the onboard video (ATI Rage Pro) meant to be integrated in the new PowerPC Macintosh emulator called DingusPPC. While analyzing the way...

@Bolle Thanks a lot! Well, I'll think it over and send you a PM.

REQUEST: Beige G3 logic board pictures

Hello everyone, I'm currently working on a Power Macintosh emulation project called DingusPPC. Our current goal is to create a virtual software model of the Gossamer HW, that is, an emulator of the Power Macintosh G3. I need high-resolution pictures of the Beige G3 logic board (Desktop or...

    Mac OS hibernation in PowerBook/iBook

Hello crews, I hope to find someone here who has a working PowerBook/iBook G3/G4 running Mac OS 9.x and who could help me with the hibernation feature in pre-OS X Mac OS. Mac OS 9 does support system hibernation like OS X does ("Safe Sleep"). It seems to work on laptops only - I wasn't able to...

    CUDA, EGRET, HC6805 Hacking

Hi crews, I've just started uploading a commented assembly for the Cuda Firmware v2.37, see this Github repository. To my knowledge, that's the latest firmware available but we need to re-check it. In the next days, I'm going to put even more docs on Cuda - so stay tuned!

    LC TDK PSU issues

Is it correct that this TDK PSU is more than 20 years old? If so, getting another old unit doesn't guarantee it won't fail, too...

    LC TDK PSU issues

Well, if you can get a replacement PSU of the same type for little money, go ahead! If not, it's worth trying to fix the existing one as I did with my old Astec PSU (still working after been fixed). BTW, a quick ebay search reveals a used TDK 699-0153 for 79,95 € + shipping from Germany to...

    LC TDK PSU issues

The badcaps forum (what a funny name :beige: ) has a board dedicated to PSU troubleshooting and repair. You could ask there if they can identify that mysterious component. There are several people around there skilled in the art...

    CUDA, EGRET, HC6805 Hacking

Never heard anything about it. Can you supply some more information on that CUDA Lite chip? Well, CUDA as well as its predecessors (Bit-bang, Egret) is basically a multipurpose MCU that emulates some peripheral bus protocol using the bit banging approach. In other words, all required...

    CUDA, EGRET, HC6805 Hacking

Glad to know, thanks! IIUC, I'd need an extra account to access the Wiki, right? Is there any ASIC-related Wiki section there? I didn't see any. Where may I post such information to?
