    TWAIN (film) Scanning

That's a shame, that would be the most logical place for a save setting. I can't speak for specific versions, Macintosh Garden should list the supported systems. I don't recall much other than the fact GC had Twain support. It seems the option to save to disk is reliant entirely on the Twain...

    TWAIN (film) Scanning

In the second screen grab there is a button labelled 'Destination' and a drop down menu showing 'Screen' - what are the other options there? I'm not familiar with subscanning, but it appears to be a way to increase scan resolution using two passes of the scan head, and your math would to be...

    TWAIN (film) Scanning

I used to operate scanning equipment for work, it's been a long time but I may be able to provide some advice: - Instead of Photoshop, use GraphicConverter to open the TWAIN interface, it's a more lightweight application - There should be a way to scan directly to disk, instead of having to...

    Performa 5400 video resolution shenanigans

Yes I tested all of the options, the higher refresh rates yielded a blank screen. I wonder what other resolutions will be unlocked on my other macs.

    Performa 5400 video resolution shenanigans

You sir/madam are a legend! SwitchRes has indeed enabled 1024x768 resolution under 8.6. It's a bit hard on the eyes at 60Hz, but at least I have the option to get some more screen real estate when I need it. Thank you!

    Performa 5400 video resolution shenanigans

No problem, I have a few partitions available, so I'll experiment on spare one.

    Performa 5400 video resolution shenanigans

I will give this a shot, hopefully I don't brick the machine.

    Performa 5400 video resolution shenanigans

Check out the apple repair manual page 231, DB-15 display output is an optional upgrade which fits in to a 22 pin connector on the logic board: http://www.applerepairmanuals.com/the_manuals_are_in_here/PM_Perf54_5500.pdf I believe the video setup is similar between the 6360 and 5400 logic...

    Performa 5400 video resolution shenanigans

I agree it is likely to be something in the system folder, I just haven't been able to figure out what. I run 8.6 because I notice everything is slower under OS 9, and aside from the aforementioned resolution and USB audio support, it doesn't offer anything else I need.

    Performa 5400 video resolution shenanigans

According to everymac.com this machine does support 1024x768: https://everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_performa/specs/mac_performa_5400_180.html The higher resolution is available on mine under OS 9 but not 8.6. The external DB-15 video connector, which isn't present on my machine, is just an...

    Performa 5400 video resolution shenanigans

I do have show all selected under 8.6 and it maxes out at 832x624.

    Performa 5400 video resolution shenanigans

    Yes I normally run at 256 colours 832 x 624.

    Performa 5400 video resolution shenanigans

I'm trying to figure out a discrepancy in the available display resolutions on my beloved Performa 5400. Normally I run Mac OS 8.6 on this machine, however I have a second partition running 9.0.X. Under 8.6 the maxumum resolution available is 832 x 624, but under OS 9 it's 1024 x 768. I do a lot...

Found the 50MHz bus switch on Alchemy (5400/6400)

Just when I thought I'd run out of possible upgrades! This scares me but I might give it a shot - my frame rates in Quake could use a boost.

Found the 50MHz bus switch on Alchemy (5400/6400)

This is pretty amazing work. I have a 5400 with a 400 MHz sonnet G3 upgrade, this has got me wondering if I can squeeze a bit more performance out of it with the 50mhz mod.

TashRecorder: a Farallon MacRecorder compatible clone

This is fantastic! I have a music studio which is full of old Macs, this would be very useful to get my SE/30 and Mac Plus in to the loop.

How can I transfer files from a Power Macintosh 7100/80 to a more modern mac?

I guessed from the nifty icon that the old Macs show when connected. Shame Synology dropped support, hopefully I can manually keep it going - I was thinking I should see about getting the latest versions installed if I can.

How can I transfer files from a Power Macintosh 7100/80 to a more modern mac?

I recommend persevering with the network option. You will need to find some guides and spend the time to get it going, but it's very convenient once it's going. I use a Synology NAS which I'm pretty sure uses netatalk, and can connect to it from all my old Macs as well as my modern stuff. It's...
