Very good! I have SoftWindows 3.1 for my PB1400c/166. It's surprisingly usable!

upgrading the ibook clamshell's L2 cache to 1MB

Hi @obsolete ( @croissantking, @Phipli ) I'm hoping to get back to experimenting with desoldering SMTs, using a hot air gun. Knowing my level of expertise, I'm pretty likely to pop a TQFP - though I have a lot to practice on and apart from the Intel 80196 MCU I don't mind too much if it's part...

cozyMIDI - new app that plays std midi files (68k)

Sorry: preamble! Well done! Looks like you've done an amazing piece of work! I used to have an MT-32, which despite being pre-General MIDI I suppose is an obvious target if the patches are remapped. I also once had a Roland SC-D70, which I bought to go with my Tangerine iBook, but that's also...

    Getting started

The Plus is about as empty as an SE so there's a reasonable amount of space. However, it doesn't have a fan, so you shouldn't cram too much in! SCSI is supported, but it has no built-in expansion slot, so the only way to expand it is to remove the CPU and mount a daughterboard with the CPU (or...

@robin-fo .. I just realised, we know this Macintosh IIx has this alternate font, but is it true of all of them? Eg we know some LC475s started out with LCIII cases.

    Getting started

OK, so your thread led me to have a look at what Vintage Macs were available on eBay. It's instructive, because as a whole working ones have definitely been getting quite a lot more expensive over the past few years. Picking an SE/30 as a starting point is understandable. It's legendary! But...

BlueSCSI does not boot Mac SE

@zefrenchtoon . So, Eric got me to build BlueSCSI from source. I had quite a bit of faff installing the arm-none-eabi gcc tools version 14.2, because homebrew wanted to install gcc 15 and BlueSCSI expects gcc 14. Homebrew also provided links to Arm's toolchain, but only links to 15.2 for macOS...

    PowerBook 540c - Did a thing (OS 8.6)

So that means the 500 series is architecturally equivalent to a PowerBook 1400, because that's the same as a PB5300? Interesting.

BlueSCSI does not boot Mac SE

@zefrenchtoon : I had an answer from a developer. It seems like it's an RP2040 B0 silicon issue. https://github.com/BlueSCSI/BlueSCSI-v2/discussions/384 He's asked me to compile it myself, so I'll need to update the sdk and probably Gcc!

BlueSCSI does not boot Mac SE

It's a BlueSCSI v2 desktop that I intend to stick inside a standard SCSI enclosure, which I was doing to begin with. So, the intended chain of connections is: PowerBook1400 => Dock/SCSI adapter => Zip Drive SCSI cable (DB25 at either end) => SCSI Zip Drive => DB25 to Centronics SCSI cable =>...

BlueSCSI does not boot Mac SE

Hi @zefrenchtoon ! Thanks for the help thus far. I've looked at both of those issues. I changed my SD card to a 64GB one that matched the speed setting (10). I formatted it with the special formatting tool on my MacBook Air M2, which took ages as it was over a USB 2.0 multi-memory card adapter...

    Pseudo-Mac mini G3

Oh yes, I practice puns on a daily basis. Mostly on my wife. And she's still with me, though I'm not sure if that says more about her ability to endure than my skill as a punmeister.

Thanks @croissantking - I hope you're having a ball with that! Much appreciated!

BlueSCSI does not boot Mac SE

Hi @zefrenchtoon ! OK. I don't know, it was the original Tom Tom 8GB SD card from my Renault Zoe, which I repurposed when I had map update on a new card. I have done that now, I used DiskJockey to create a blank 20MB hda image. I've tried USB power and Berg power. Sorry, I just formatted it...

BlueSCSI does not boot Mac SE

Minor update. I found a sliver of solder on the Berg connector between 5V and GND, which potentially could have caused a problem, so I fixed that. It didn't make any difference. I had buzzed out those connections and hadn't seen a short before. I've found that plugging in the BlueSCSI without...

BlueSCSI does not boot Mac SE

Summary: I bought a BlueSCSI kit; I've detailed my construction tests here and where I'm stuck due to an error message, advice welcome! I've recently bought a BlueSCSI desktop kit, so I needed to solder the SCSI connector, Berg power plug and other headers. My soldering looks OK to me. After...

DingusPPC: A more accurate PowerPC Mac emulator

I had heard of pseudo-DMA, but I didn't know how it worked. I was just going by @Arbee 's post earlier in this thread: https://68kmla.org/bb/threads/dingusppc-a-more-accurate-powerpc-mac-emulator.51537/post-591881 Here, he explains that on the Quadra 630/Performa 630, which is essentially the...

DingusPPC: A more accurate PowerPC Mac emulator

Cr CroissantKing’s reply. Not necessarily. If the system boots from 68K, it’ll check for a PPC ROM, but it could be a minimal ROM. Then you could load the PPC ROM from disk, like a NewWorld Mac does, because you already have a CPU that can do that. Then juggle the (PPC) MMU tables so the ROM is...

DingusPPC: A more accurate PowerPC Mac emulator

Hmmm. I guess the card came with a full GD emulator, 4MB PPC ROM?
