PowerMac G4 MDD unstable after bus speed mod

I haven't checked the Vcore, but the chips are 7455A. It should be at the stock setting. I'm a bit unsure as to why it would need a boost if it's being run as designed; this card was originally sold with a 166MHz-bus speed system. The issue is between the Memory Controller and RAM.

Power Mac G4 MDD and the USB 2.0 chip

I am really curious if the FW800 firmware update was literally just to block OS9 booting and USB 2.0...

It's left shifted. Look at the screen compared to the speakers and the hinges.

Well done mate, that's a lovely machine to get restored. The off-centered LCD is quirky and very un-Apple, but adds character.

I am, but it needs to be one of the ones with an FPGA onboard, which means Interware/Vimage. The Newer and Sonnet ones have a CPLD which is very likely copy protected.

Hah. I'm hoping to reverse engineer a G3 upgrade for a PB1400 (when I get one) and do this myself.

I picked up a 30 pack of Metristak connectors from The Connector People that will eventually be used in new-build 500 series CPU cards. With many thanks to @Callan for proxy shipping them to me.

But you'll have to deform it first to find out the threshold :D

Quantum Hard Drives - which models can be (reasonably) fixed?

Does the head move when powered up, or is it still stuck? Try powering it on with the lid off so you can see what's happening. It's possible the shim is too thin or too thick for your drive. I wouldn't automatically assume your drive is damaged without further testing.

    IICX Restore - Graphics issue

It’s different to that. Analogue video cards put out horizontal and vertical sync signals. Older cards such as this one combine those signals on one pin but newer screens often expect to see those signals on two separate pins. It’s not just LCDs, some CRTs don’t work with composite sync either.

    IICX Restore - Graphics issue

Ugh the Toby card. No separate sync output. No problem for your M1212 but annoying for many newer monitors.

    Q840av gets a make over

Just pulled out my spare board to look. I can't see any traces leading off from the middle pins of J29. It's possible the traces are internal but more likely they're not wired to anything given the ID doesn't change.
