is it worth doing the takky mod in 2026?

I'm guessing you would quite enjoy doing the mod. The 6360 is a good choice as it wouldn't tax the CC analogue board too much.

    Cloning & Modernizing the TAM

Wow, this is phenomenal work how many hours did it take to design all of this? As a TAM owner (it's still intact ...), I'd be keen to see an upgraded fat back, notably to improve cooling and allow for additional expansion options - there would be a lot of interest in that with your hard work.

What FPS do you get in Quake on your machine?

Thanks for the PM spam, reported

    Zulu on Powerbook 100

Hi Frederick, I'd try rebuilding the disk image using a utility such as Disk Jockey - it sounds like the image you have on the SD card is not stored or saved in an adjoining file (aka contiguous). https://diskjockey.onegeekarmy.eu/

Performa 6200 desktop – vertical lines

Deep cleaning time particularly around the VRAM would be the next step. An ultrasonic clean could also help

cozyMIDI - new app that plays std midi files (68k)

@Mu0n what a great application complete with B&W cozy graphics. Look forward to trying it on an SE with Roland SC88 I have.

is it worth doing the takky mod in 2026?

It the modification is done properly it's a worthwhile upgrade. It's not just the harness/cabling switch but you will need to Dremel and remove more plastic and RF shielding than what you think. Full recap of analogue board, add the voltage regulator and cooling improvements are much needed...

    Comparing models

https://web.archive.org/web/20040702050830/https://www.applefritter.com/thefritter/18/adb.html Hack time! But agree hit rate of PB150 myself is 3 crumbled into worse on repair, but maybe there is an intact one out there.

    Comparing models

You just need one that was stored in someone's home, not put out in the shed for years on end :). First inspection will tell pretty quickly as as soon as you open it things will snap.

Can finally put my SE/30 reloaded to bed....

That board will past 50 years, nice work

Are PCI Powermacs hard to find now?

Chunks of plastic pieces and e-Waste I imagine. Amazed at all the iMac G3s that still keep popping up, but presume the beige gets chucked while the odd ones live on. "Strange or be forgotten"; see song by Temples. They're great machines and cheap to upgrade I've had had a soft spot for the...

    Getting started

Australian SE/30s tend to have the Astec or Singapore branded PSUs, neither are good news. Agree the Sony units even if failed come back pretty good with a recap.

    Comparing models

Think I posted much the same stuff in your other thread, but I'd grab whatever PowerBook/Duo you can find that's lead an easy life, stored indoors with a good LCD (no polariser/glue destruction and no tunnel vision). Reason being: yes you can replace the polariser film on some, but it's not...

    Getting started

Welcome @madsox The cockroach of the vintage Mac world is either the Mac Plus, or SE (few more issues with separate PSU and analogue board, but largely seem more reliable than SE/30 counterpart). Both are easy to fix and diagnose faults for, but you will be using the soldering iron on both...

    SE/30 recapper recommendation — Melbourne or AU-based?

I've heard this too; it's a job that can start out OK making a few bucks but as soon as you hit an impatient person expecting miracles it can escalate to something far less enjoyable. Similar to eBay buyers - 99% good then you hit the buyer from hell and give up for quite a while. I only offer...

    Quantum 80S drive not spinning

Now you've freed up the heads/platters and it boots, it'll probably work OK until the next time you don't use it for six months. These older drives are much more tolerant than later models noting low density platters and higher tolerance of parts. Just don't save your one and only Bitcoin...

How to remove rust from EMF shield

@arrox you can melt back the missing shield standoffs with high temp hot glue, or melt some PLA/ABS filament using a soldering iron. The ports: I'd use a wire wheel to remove the rust on them, or steel wool. The very rusty 3.5" audio jack desolder and replace with new.

    Diagnosing Macintosh Classic

Nicely done! I suspect cap goo is still present, have you checked the other culprits as noted TDA4605 @ IP1, CNY17G @ QP1, and diodes on the analog board, also clean the CRT adjustment pots and check voltages now showing life. The Sad Mac: related to the motherboard likely caps or bad RAM...

    PowerBook 2400C Cardbus Woes

There is no need, the modification works in all 2400c 180/240Mhz and enables 32-bit Cardbus support over 16-bit PCMCIA standards. Note some Cardbus cards have issues fitting in the slot, and free that a FW card might be pushing it in terms of compatibility and power draw (and early standard as...

    AppleCD SC Not Working

Nice idea but you'd have to consider the early model will not like reading CD-Rs let alone smaller capacity media in that format.
