    IIci Cache Card Failures

IIRC, on the IIci cache card they are 22 uF. But one should double check, as my memory is old and corroded.

    ANS 500 Rom

Starting about here: https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/pex-rom-project.23568/post-269509 is some discussion of the difficulty in converting from a software dump of the ROM to actual files that go on chips. We solved the issue, as you'll see if you read a handful of posts further in from...

    Seeking Daystar Turbo 601 software

Did anyone ever archive the Brinhoven site? May be wildly misremembering that name. There was a "The Unofficial Turbo 601 Page" and it was hosted there. Went down some time ago, but I hope someone archived the collected wisdom.

    7100 questions

Also, if you have not already, remove the heat sink, clean the chalk that was once heat sink grease, and replace with a tiny dab of good heat sink compound. Do not crack the CPU in the process.

Is there a way to increase the 136MB RAM limit in the Power Mac 6100 and 7100

I don't have any X100 boards where I can lay hands on them, but from what I remember, the chip was labeled with an Apple part number, but it's entirely possible that it was a rebadged CPLD. I checked my notes, but I didn't record the part number. Electrically, it's going to sit between the...

PowerTower Pro has decided not to work with XLR8 CPU cards (soldered G3 and ZIF). Thoughts?

What Byrd wrote.... I've had similar issues and cleaning the CPU socket with something like DeOxit https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00006LVEU has relieved the issue at least a couple of times. I had similar issues before I thought to clean the contacts and ultimately replaced the...

540MB MO in Fujitsu 640MB DynaMO?

All of my content formerly at prismnet.com/~trag is now at sphinxgroup.org. Do not add the ~trag at the end. tigertech handles web space a little differently from how prismnet did.

SCSI for Dummies Thread - How to properly use SCSI

There might be some useful information here: https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/scsi-voodoo-howto.25878/ And there's a link in that thread to the comp.periphs.scsi FAQ on SCSI that I mentioned above.

SCSI for Dummies Thread - How to properly use SCSI

Adaptec later created a number of cards with the "2940UW" identifier. Only the ones based on the Adaptec 7880 chip are convertible to Mac use. There was a 2940UW 'Dual' or 'Duo' or some such which wasn't. The 2940UW is pretty easy to convert because there's a set of DIP holes right on the...

SCSI for Dummies Thread - How to properly use SCSI

That was the Q950, not the PM9500/9600. The Q950 pre-dated SCSI Manager 4.3, which supported multiple unique SCSI busses on the same Macintosh. Later Macs, such as the PM9150 have SCSI manager built into the ROM, but the Q950 did not and was the first Mac with two SCSI controller chips. After...

Replacement ASC Chip (UE10) for SE30?

Get a personalized quote before ordering anything from UTsource. Both their on-line quantity, and often, their on-line pricing is imaginary. I placed a large (>$1000) order a couple of years ago, only to get emails from them, "these parts aren't available", me: "so you don't have 37,391 of...

Attempting to patch the SuperMac S900/Umax Pulsar's Open Firmware with "The Great Gazelle PCI Hack"

Because of Apple's firmware. I don't know exactly how it's set up, but I believe the slots on Bandit are explicitly enumerated in the firmware, rather than "discovered" by polling. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's the case. Umax would have had to modify the firmware to put more...

Attempting to patch the SuperMac S900/Umax Pulsar's Open Firmware with "The Great Gazelle PCI Hack"

Yep, they're all identical physically and firmware-wise. Clock speed is controlled by which CPU card is installed.

Attempting to patch the SuperMac S900/Umax Pulsar's Open Firmware with "The Great Gazelle PCI Hack"

Hmmm. A lot to comment on... Apologies if the order is poor. And let me say at the beginning that I am impressed by both of your efforts on this topic, and everyone involved in the Gazelle hack, of course. Firmware/ROM: I use two items to identify ROMs. Perhaps @joevt can comment on...

Ideas for Mac mod / accessory DIY kits?

Maybe Rob's (bbraun) Mac Keyboard Interface? http://www.synack.net/~bbraun/mackbd/index.html I've never built it, but it looks interesting. The only issue is that I'm not sure if he ever shared the wiring for the final revision. He changed the design a couple of times after he wrote the...

    Mouse alternative for Macintosh 512k

The "@bbraun" isn't a link. Did you click on the "Rob's Mac Keyboard Interface Adapter". That works for me. Interested to know if it does not work for others.

    Mouse alternative for Macintosh 512k

There's also this from 2013: Rob's Mac Keyboard Interface Adapter The thing is, he gives wiring instructions for the first iteration, but then he updated the design a couple of times and didn't update the wiring description. Although it might be in the .tar file that includes the software...

    Mouse alternative for Macintosh 512k

I thought there was a fairly simple conversion from old serial mice (plugged into a PC's serial (COM) port). Too lazy to go searching though. I'm not sure how common old serial mice are any more.
