cozyMIDI - new app that plays std midi files (68k)

That changed with the iMac, didn't it? Likewise, the blue & white PM G3, in 1998. Apple made a clean jump from the two serial ports to USB. But IIRC, the SCC was exposed via OF on all PPC Macs. I recall doing something on my G5 and finding that I could plug a serial adapter into USB and the...

MacsBug in Mini vMac Plus/SE/Classic with larger screen

I'm not sure that the alternate buffer is the "only" issue here -- back when Paul implemented the BII-style main buffer outside of the emulated stack, Mini vMac already had issues like this with Macsbug. It was on the list of outstanding items back when Paul had to step away from the project...

access ntp time server in os x 10.1

It might be worth reading these: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/163209/disabling-ntp-on-os-x-lion-or-older https://www.emaculation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8522 Apple's PPC NTP client had a massive security hole. It was fixed with Mountain Lion, which of course isn't available for...

is it worth doing the takky mod in 2026?

If you've got the working components, and don't have a functional CC motherboard, I say, why not give it a go? Personally, I stuck with the CC board mods and an accelerator when I was CC modding back in the 90s.

    EtherTalk routing across Tailscale

I highly recommend reading https://marchintosh.com/globaltalk.html because it's solving pretty much the same issue -- except they're creating a global localtalk network instead of one that can work over IP-bridged networks. I've been thinking about this issue myself, but haven't got around to...

10/11 pt monospaced fonts for System 6

Back in 1990, I opened up ResEdit on the Courier font, and created 10 and 20 point versions of it. Why 20? Because if you've got a 20 point font and an ImageWriter II, when you print at 10 point, if you have it, it'll print the 20 point at 144dpi. I did this for London as well...

Anyone try out or use the System 7.6.1 Rootless app yet?

You might want to check with Ed to see where that variant stores its PRAM file. Because the issue is definitely either 1. the PRAM file isn't storing the change, or 2. the PRAM file is getting overwritten after you change the setting. No need to "zap" the PRAM; it's stored (somewhere) in an...

cozyMIDI - new app that plays std midi files (68k)

Thanks for taking this one to the finish line, @Mu0n ! Brings back memories of using DMCS, a Mac Plus and a Korg! That setup (I suspect due to DMCS) tended to bottom out with more than four voices though. Will it also work with QT Midi if it's present?

AppleTalk over PPP with Cisco Dial-in Router

Nice! If you set up an Asterisk server, you can even hook up your POTS system to the rest of the world via VoIP! The bridge won't handle digital networking or fax of course, but it'd be neat to be able to call someone over the internet with a rotary phone!

    Macintosh Plus analog board issue

Did the Mac Plus ever get sent in for the recall? If not, it's likely the cold solder on the CRT harness; just needs any cracked solder joints reflowed IIRC. Of course, remove the battery if it's still in there, too :)

NetBoot OS 9 from a Modern Linux Server

Yeah; it definitely wasn't Apple NetBoot, but I've lost what it was to the mists of time.

NetBoot OS 9 from a Modern Linux Server

Going back further... does anyone remember the pre-netboot process that was used to netboot the Mac Plus? I used to frequent a number of labs where you'd stick in the network boot floppy, they'd load the loader, create a RAM disk, and then populate the RAM disk from the server and reboot onto...

    180MHz 603ev CPU upgrade for 5300ce?

If it matches the doc, then it's valid and known :) That does mean that the 5300 definitely shares that ROM, which is good to know.

Bus Error when mounting Netatalk shares

I wonder what would happen if someone tried to submit a bug request for this to Apple? :D

Mystery Nubus Card - SCII RNIS MAC V1.1

If you happen to be lucky enough to have a POTS emulator sitting around, you can connect the card up to that and run a real ISDN connection :) Alternatively, if you have TWO of these cards, you should be able to connect them directly with a crossover cable. You might even be able to leverage...

MacSurf — a real NetSurf-based browser for Mac OS 9 (CSS3, ES5 JS, native HTTPS)

You forgot "Sure! Here you go!" followed by the URL text you entered and "would you like me to display the results to your screen?" where any response results in a response of "Oh, my mistake. You are insightful and correct to want the resulting rendered output. Here you go!" followed by a...

“Looking for the IDA Free 5.0 procs folder (m68k.w32, m680x0.w32, m683xx.w32). Not the installer — just the processor modules.”

Hmm; never used Free; is 5.0 the current version, or is it tracking 9.x?

    AppleShare Client for System 4

AppleShare 1.1 is the right disk; it comes with both System 3.3 and 4.1 on the disk, and Finder 5.5. Part number is M0548A. I seem to recall the disk image being present in a lot of the collections (as well as on MG).
