I connected a pair of Labtec Spin-75 speakers to the AWE64’s speaker out port. Sound works perfectly - I can hear the Win 3.1 “Tada” chime on startup and I can play with various musical instruments in the MIDI control panel.
Things that still need fixing:
(1) I need to find the optional PC card...
It is (and that's without the fancy PC board bracket). I even had to remove the big plastic cover support in order for the IIfx lid to close and not make contact with the Sound Blaster card.
I was hoping the OrangePC card would have had sound integrated, sort of like the DOS card for the 6100...
My AWE64 Sound Blaster card arrived yesterday. I was able to download some Win 3.1 drivers directly from Creative Labs. As the pics show, the card is detected by DOS 6.1 - only problem is I can't hear anything. Do I need to connect an internal speaker directly to the Sound Blaster card or run a...
Bought a Sound Blaster AWE64 (CT4500) "value" card from eBay. It's just the card - no drivers or accessories - but Creative Labs still has drivers on their website so I should be OK. Will be interesting to mount to the OrangePC card without a bracket. If all else fails, I can just use it with my...
I'm thinking more along the lines of Apple's DOS compatibility card for the 6100.
I'm guessing it does. The 386 manual is a little vague.
Well I could always run the IIfx with the cover off (yeah, right).
Thus far everything seems to be working fine. I had no issues installing DOS 6.1 and...
I know. I'm just trying to get sound - any sound - to work with the card. The 386 manual made reference to PC Speaker but I can't enable it due to differences in the menu listings.
Thanks. It's definitely interesting.
I haven't plugged in anything directly to the card. I doubt I have a Sound...
Fixed the mouse error. Went into Setup and changed the driver to Microsoft Mouse.
Tried installing Sound Blaster 16 from my Apple DOS install disk to fix the sound issue. Driver doesn't work - I guess Sound Blaster isn't supported with OrangePC cards? The 386 manual states on Page 46 that PC...
My OrangePC card arrived today in the mail. The card itself is in perfect working order (pics to come soon). The only significant problem I'm having at the moment is getting the OrangePC mouse driver to work in Windows 3.1 (the driver is fine in DOS 6.1 and I can toggle between Mac or PC mouse...
This fixed it. Thanks.
I think that's what caused the problem in the first place. I had the M2115 drive connected to my B&W G3 with the 22" Apple Cinema Display set to 1600x1200 and that somehow made all of the windows bigger on the poor 640x480 13" Mac monitor.
When I click on the icon for my M2115 drive on the IIfx's desktop, its window opens off-screen. Any thoughts on how to get the window to not open off-screen?
Running System 7.1 - 8.24GC Card 13" Macintosh Color Display
The Gefen was advertised as working. Obviously it isn't. Why should I hold onto something that doesn't do the job as intended and poses a potential fire hazard?
Just turned on my B&W (it has a G4 PCI board). The ADC monitor lives. I guess leaving it unplugged for a few hours cured whatever ailed it. Let's see how long this lasts.
I have one of those adapter cables (forgot the brand - probably Belkin) but it's ADC to DVI. It poses the same problem as...
Two weeks ago, I decided to take the plunge and purchase a NIB Gefen DVI-to-VGA adapter on eBay. It arrived today, and of course, I've got problems.
Firstly, my ADC monitor remained blank, even after the IIfx completed its RAM test (and this was with the 8.24GC Card). Adjusting the Gefen's EDID...
Fixed my ATI extensions problem. Totally forgot I had this gem in my software library:
So now I've got the correct extensions and drivers for my ATI card. Here's the control panel:
All that's left is to figure out why the Zip drive doesn't work. None of the Iomega drivers that came...
My other Quantum HD has the same ATI extensions installed. The issue with my current Quantum HD is it will hang indefinitely if the ATI Resource Manager extension is enabled after startup. When this extension is removed, I can reach the login screen and desktop. Also, I've noticed that the ATI...
PSU is original. Cables were changed. RAM was upgraded to 1GB way back in the day. It's always started - unlike my IIfx which recently required a PSU swap - and the sound is very strong. Everything is clean.
I think what I'll do is hookup the other Quantum 4GB drive I have to the B&W - it also...
And the thing is I can't explain why. This B&W always ran funny, even after I removed the original G3 logic board and replaced it with a 400MHz G4 board. At least everything was free, 10+ years ago.
Reformatting the USB key to HFS fixed the programs on the USB. I actually had to reformat the drive twice - for some reason OS 9.2.1 did not recognize Snow Leopard's Mac OS Extended formatting and asked if I wanted to initialize the drive.
There's still a lingering problem even after all this...
