    What is the SWIM PIC?

That made me laugh! From Wikipedia: "A/ROSE is infamous for its esoteric purpose, which is generally not understood by Mac end users, as well as for causing many Mac emulators, such as Basilisk II, to produce a system error at boot time." I think in all the years I've used Macs I only ran...

does anyone make a atx to MDD converter

Thanks, back in the day I had it loaded up with four HD's and two optical drives. No wonder the original PS gave out. (twice) I pulled out two of the HD's and an optical drive after the second OEM PS died. It's a dual 1.25ghz system. My intention was to over clock it to 1.42 but I never got...

does anyone make a atx to MDD converter

I did the ATX power supply swap on my MDD a few years back. I got a molex pin extraction tool and swapped the pins in just a few minutes. I used an ATX PS extension cable to route the lines behind the optical drives and clear the full-length nvidia card. The PS is held up with a couple of sheet...

Mystery PCI card in a PM7500

Looks like it drove an Agfa image setter. Just casually googling around, seems like there might still be a (small) market for these. You should a bit more research before you declare it worthless.

    Full 68040

(Oh, yeah, ^^^^^what he said.^^^^^^) Hmm looks like at some point they made some 182 pin versions as opposed to the more common 179 pin packages.

You are correct. I misread that portion.

’03 MDD 1.25GHz SP FW400 - No load or boot of OS 9

I ran your serial number over here and got this. https://everymac.com/systems/apple/powermac_g4/specs/powermac_g4_1.25_mdd.html Your system may have the same board but different firmware or the description of the system capabilities is incorrect from one of those sources.

’03 MDD 1.25GHz SP FW400 - No load or boot of OS 9

Based on the serial number I believe this model will only run OS9 in the "classic" environment. i.e within OSX. (Tiger) This is the "rereleased" G4 version that Apple sold for a while after people complained about dropping OS9 support.

    512K gives System Error = 02 reading floppy / HD20

Heh, that's funny. A couple of years ago I was going through a big stack of old floppies after I resurrected my Plus. Disinfectant flagged one of them with MDEF. i though it was pretty funny, 30 year old virus still lurking. Back in the day these things were pretty common around the office with...

    PowerBook Express Modem 14.4kps

I believe it came on the original Powerbook system install disks. (6.0.8-7.1 etc.) It would certainly also be available on one of the Service Source CD's from the '90's, images/ISOs of which are available.

Do Not Have Enough Access Privileges Error - Mac OS 9.2.2

That is strange. If it's an IDE drive you might try reformatting (low level) it in a PC if you have access to one. After that, yeah, you might just let it go.

    techworks non-ram?

Techworks supplied Power Computing with caches and memory. One of the "secrets" to Power Computing's faster Macs were bigger caches. I have a Techworks 1MB cache I bought for my 8500. It made huge difference in performance over the stock 256K. (I got a discount from Techworks stuff because I...

Do Not Have Enough Access Privileges Error - Mac OS 9.2.2

There's probably some damage to the directory or the desktop file or some bad blocks. You can run the Apple Disk First Aid, it may fix it but Norton is a more comprehensive. The zip drive issue may be the extension is damaged or missing.

GCC HyperDrive troubleshooting - drive doesn't spin

Oh I hadn't seen that. Terrific info! If you need a better photo of the HD board let me know. I can take a picture, although my drive is only 10mb.

Have you tried running something like Norton disk doctor?

GCC HyperDrive troubleshooting - drive doesn't spin

Hmm, that's a shame, yeah fried components. No way to know why they fried or if replacing them would fix anything. I only fire up my system a couple of times a year and I'm always surprised that it still works because I know one day it won't.

GCC HyperDrive troubleshooting - drive doesn't spin

If you're lucky the drive is just stuck and can be freed up.
