I got a IIci about a week ago. Supposedly the power supply had been recapped. It was working perfectly until today when I tried to turn it on. Today it just flickers and dies. Here’s a video. Anyone with ideas I’d love to know!
I should say I have unplugged everything and replaced the PRAM...
Solution, kinda. I ended up sourcing a new system and I made a "best of both worlds" kind of thing where I took the port covers and best looking case pieces from the old one and transplanted the new one. It works. I'm afraid to put the Cirtech repro back into it. I think I'll just boot off the...
Mac OS Standard (HFS) is required for 8.0 and earlier. 8.1 can boot on a 68040 Mac if the drive is formatted Standard. If you're running 8.0 or 7.x you need Standard, so that's a good option. Otherwise Extended is better because it wastes less space on larger volumes.
Not sure when Apple...
I found some other posts on a Facebook group where someone did the same thing with an A2Pico and also fried their GS. So I’m not alone but I’m feeling stupid.
Unfortunately booting it without ADB or anything else connected (other than video) did not resolve it.
I'm intrigued by superjer2000's suggestion. I don't have a scope but I'd love to find time to learn. If the reset signal comes from booting the ROM, then the post I found indicating a bad ROM...
Hey, sorry, I should have specified. Yes, this happens with no card installed. I pulled the SCSI card when I removed the RAM. I cannot get to the control panel via Ctrl + Open Apple + Escape.
I always get so very excited about my latest acquisition, such as my recently acquired Apple IIGS. It was working great, although it only had 768k of RAM and I was booting it off of a Floppy Emu. I thought "hey it'd be cool to get a RAM expansion and a SCSI card" so I bought one of each - a...
In the video I linked I said I thought it might be the Rage 128 but the more I think about it the more I blame RAM bandwidth. I have a B&W G3, a 6500, and a Sawtooth G4 that also all run at 400MHz and it’s something I plan to test in the next video whenever I get time.
I did a lot of Quake benchmarks on six different CPUs in my PM7600. Rage 128 out of a B&W G3 for video so the CPU wasn’t bottlenecked, and 256MB of memory on Mac OS 8.6. This is 640x480 in GLQuake.
Lots of other testing too if anyone is curious.
Edit: just saw this is the NuBus forum sorry.
I know you got the main issue solved and that’s awesome. But I’m back on the backing up drives thing.
Is your SD card formatted HFS+? My setup in my 6500 is identical - IDE to SD adapter, formatted HFS+ and my Mac Studio has no problems reading the partition. It seems APM isn’t the issue but I...
Thank you very much, that's all very good info. That means the 512k that the system detects is correct. That PDF is super cool, as well. Thank you @Andy!
At VCF Midwest yesterday I picked up a really nice Apple IIgs, and aside from using a semi-emulated IIe in my LC III, this is the first Apple II to make its way home with me. So please pardon my ignorance.
It has a very large memory expansion card that is half-way populated. If I'm counting...
Bought a G3 upgrade from willmurray461 and it was super unstable in my PM 6500/225 when I first got it. I read this page from the 6400 zone: https://machut.net/mirrors/zone6400/L2G3_spec_comparison.html
Apparently, the chip on the Sonnet upgrade faces the "wrong" way because it's facing the RAM...
"G2" was in use in 1998: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/743188
It's also here: https://www.mackido.com/Hardware/G2.html
I doubt it's been used widely, but I saw a video somewhere saying Jobs even said it. I know, I know, I should cite my sources. I'll work on that.
