    from the photos I dont see any really bad corrosion, apart from the darker area with the little PRAM battery connection socket.. fuses, I dont know if they all are soldered in-types, but in many cases it turned out some were indeed blown, it is littered with those fuses ( theres a thread here...

    of course, a very basic design I used CF/IDE adapters too, but my CF card isnt the best I guess, and correct formatting is key from normal use I couldnt tell a big difference in usind a SD or CF I'll do some more testing.

    the battery acid must have been inside after the explosion for quite a while..it takes time to melt into the sockets etc. the problem with ram sockets is that one drop of solder/acid in them can render those unusable, so that you must desolder/replace them completely.:rolleyes:

    I found it to be easiest/secure to unhook the two key's side latches with a fine tool like a tweezer first to unpop it from the base.. interestingly I havent broken off any of these, maybe these are made from a different kind of plastics than the ABS case..

    when I restored my 540c I also noticed bad action on some keys, but they can be disassembled and cleaned..there was a lot of fluff underneath :p

    the 5300c looks good though, how bad is the corroson inside? the PDQ are nice machines, last year I had one with a 12" display, never seen one of those before, only 14". in the Cardbus slot is a gemeric NEC USB2 card, worked well.

    about formating, AFAIK HFS+ (or extended) is a hard drive format. Journaling is not, journaling is a feature available with HFS+ and selecting to have journaling enabled with HFS+ formatting is an option but not required.

    that cheap chinese products, in the EU these would probably not be allowed, just for the inhealthy offgasing. I bought a replacement bellows for my Linhof large format camera from china and it took almost a year till the chemical stench was gone. sorry for OT

    installed Puma 10.1 on the hdd, it runs better than Jaguar, trackpad now works but ethernet istill isnt recognized as expected..well

    did your 1400 soga/glue repair go well? I often found the little noses of the caps broken off on my 1400 machines..

    well no doubt that Jaguar or any more modern OSX run better on an iBook clamshell/white iBook/Tit..they do quite well with mSata/IDE combo..that was not the point. The Kangas are one of the rarest PBs that are out there ( only 6 month in production) and Apples earliest generic G3 in a PowerBook...
