If the 700 wasn't crippled with only two Nubus slots, it probably would work better with the PowerPC upgrade cards, when another card is installed, heat-wise.

Use a power supply from a IIvx, Centris 650, Quadra 650, etc. Has more amperage than the stock IIci power supply used in the 700 case, but fits in it perfectly.

If you do decide to put it in a case, an ATX power supply stuffed into a II power supply's housing should work.

Maybe a junk II or IIx case, with the port openings modified, would work for the 8100 board.

Sold the IIfx. Don't see myself having enough space to set it up, so off it goes. Also purged the A1278. In its place are two items coming. A 5,1 Mac Pro logic board to properly upgrade my A1289 and a mid-2012 A1286 MBP with 2.6GHz Core i7 processor and 8GB RAM, plus a 750GB hard drive.

Yup, the 7.1.2P version was for the Performa 63x series, the LC 630, and the Q630. The regular 7.1.2 version is the one for the 6100/60, 7100/66, and 8100/80 machines.

I wonder if that's because System 6 won't run with 32-bit addressing turned on, which is required on all PPC Macs, and on the 630 series Macs as well. If 6 can be made compatible with 32-bit addressing, then it might work. 7.1.2 is the PPC version, so you can probably get away with running...

Just sourced a dual CPU tray with two 2.93GHz Xeons on it. Going to run it with the current 16GB of RAM split between the two processors, but will eventually add four more 4GB modules to bump it up to 32GB.

Interesting. Will it run Arkanoid? As you may be aware, Arkanoid won't run on a Mac that cannot be run in 24-bit addressing mode, so anything running System 7.6 or higher, or a 630 series '040 Mac, all Power Macs, and maybe the 190.

That's how my old 475 was. Except that it came with the later lid and floppy. I wound up taking the lid and floppy from an LC I had at the same time, then combined the two, so mine said Macintosh LC Performa 475.

Yeah, it's a typo. The 410 was essentially another variant of the LC II. Supposedly was the Performa 400 variant, but with a 12" monitor bundled with it. The 430 was a 405 with a 127MB Quantum drive instead of the 80MB Quantum supplied with the other machines.
