Xliinx/AMD: no more free Linux licenses...

    What a weird decision.

Bus Error when mounting Netatalk shares

Yes, I thought it was something like that. I'm using the netatalk systemd service that comes with the Arch package, but I didn't check if that's straight from upstream or they fiddle with it, so it might be the packaging. At any rate SQLite is a thing I know and trust so if you think it's mature...

Bus Error when mounting Netatalk shares

Ah, very cool, I meant to see if I could get in touch with you to add it to the documentation. I don't log in to Github anymore, so I can't add this, but as stated, I also had trouble with the default CNID backend. Here's a snippet of what my logs looked like before I switched to the sqlite...

Bus Error when mounting Netatalk shares

Adding the icon worked! Thanks a lot. Now I have file sharing. Cool.

Bus Error when mounting Netatalk shares

I've got System 7.6.1 on a Quadra 700. OT 1.3.1 and AppleShare 3.8.3 (latest as per System 7 Today). Netatalk 4.4.2 on x86 Arch Linux with AppleTalk enabled. I can share a CUPS printer and print, but when I try to mount an AFP share, the Mac crashes with a bus error. I can log in, see the list...

Is there a way to force-close any app at any time?

It sometimes works but sometimes it either freezes the machine or leads to weirdness later. I only ever use it to get a chance to save and reboot in an orderly fashion.

Quadra 700 Mainboard in IIcx case ...

It looks like the Q650 has the same port layout as the 700, but obviously has the extra Nubus slot. The port layout of the IIci is a little different. A shame, I'd like the extra slot (and... cheap RAM) in my 700, but I don't want to chop up the case.

Calling all owners of rare ADB devices!

I'm just happy some version has been preserved. I couldn't find anything at all beyond that manual. It's a bit niche, but everything deserves to be documented, doesn't it? I'll grab it if I ever find one, that's certain.

Calling all owners of rare ADB devices!

I don't know a whole lot about ADB, but the manual mentions "secret" codes - so to a first approximation, is it just sending a fixed code for each button, which then gets translated by the software? Because that seems... simple to redo.

Calling all owners of rare ADB devices!

https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/jlcooper-cs-1-controller-driver Ah! Cool. I couldn't find it because I was expecting a space in JL Cooper. Have you got one? I wonder if it would be easy-ish to clone it.

Calling all owners of rare ADB devices!

Have you ever seen a JL Cooper CS-1? It's an ADB controller specifically for early audio editing software such as ProTools and SoundEdit. Manual here: https://www.jlcooper.com/_manuals/legacy/CS-Series/CS-1_Mac_User_Manual.pdf But no software.

    Quadra 700 Sad Mac

They're not image files, the card has a readable Apple partition map with actual partitions much as if it were a SCSI HD. I'm able to mount the Mac partitions on my Linux machine if I just plug the SD card into a reader, that's why I thought dumping the whole thing to a file would work. The...

    Quadra 700 Sad Mac

Haha, nope! I saw a reference to using the ZuluBlaster in initiator mode to dump it, I might try that.

    Quadra 700 Sad Mac

I took the SD card and made a full copy of the entire drive (with dd on Linux) to a file, put that on the disk as HD2.img. Might've been naive... The Quadra's fine, though. Phew.

    Quadra 700 Sad Mac

HUH! This is a weird one: I tried one of of my Macs (LC III), and it gave the chimes of death. Then I tried my Q650 and it gave the exact same error as my Q700! It seemed strange that all of my Macs had died at the same time... but then I realized my tests had one thing in common: A brand new...

    Quadra 700 Sad Mac

Today I tried setting up my Quadra 700 again. It's been in a cupboard for a few years, but was working fine before that. Unfortunately, it now powers up to a Sad Mac, with error code 0000000F 00000003, which is apparently a "memory addressing error". I've removed all RAM, VRAM, and Nubus...

Mac OS X Cheetah ported to Nintendo Wii

Not my hack, but this is impressive: https://bryankeller.github.io/2026/04/08/porting-mac-os-x-nintendo-wii.html I think the Wii U would make a better target! It has much better specs, but of course it's not nearly as ubiquitous. Regular Wiis are probably at about the lowest point right now...

    Rare PCI card

That's unlikely. The 68020 was a very common embedded processor. Processors on PCI cards (add-in cards in general) are very common. As has been said, Becton-Dickinson, whose name is visible along the right edge, make medical equipment. This is meant to plug into some box in a lab or hospital...

Introducing ZuluSCSI Blaster - now with More Cowbell!

I finally ordered one from your European distributor + a DAC board, but then they came back and said they were sending me a new 2026 version instead with a built-in DAC? Seems cool! I can't seem to find a list of differences, though? Also, I'm really curious about the I2C control board that's...

Phoenix: Open-Source NuBus FPGA Accelerator for 68040 Macs

Interesting idea! You mention some music/audio related functionality. I would encourage you to look at Digidesign's Sound Accelerator/Audiomedia and SampleCell cards. The Sound Accelerator and Audiomedia cards were basically a Motorola 56k DSP chip with its "host port" connected via Nubus and...
