What's the fastest drive option for a SCSI Mac?

Thanks @cheesestraws I'll look into getting one of these! And thank you @max1zzz @Phipli @MrFahrenheit I think I'll try a newer SCSI disk first. I'm upgrading my PM 6100 and would happily consider a better/newer SCSI HDD if they are faster. I'm mostly wanting to use it for casual gaming, I...

6100/G3: cranking up the system clock, is 80MHz possible?

A better quality image of what looks like a 30MHz SMT TTL Crystal Oscillator. If this is the correct oscillator, would the second image be a suitable replacement?

6100/G3: cranking up the system clock, is 80MHz possible?

I have a Power Mac 6100/60 with a G3 upgrade upgrade card and have been trying to figure out how to increase the Bus speed after an interesting comment from @Trash80toHP_Mini. In the past I believe this was achieved by either replacing an oscillator with a higher frequency replacement, or by...

What's the fastest drive option for a SCSI Mac?

From what I have found it seems that SCSI2SD and BlueSCSI have ~2MB/s read and write vs ~5MB/s (correct me if I am wrong) on an old SCSI HD. What would be the fastest performing drive type on a SCSI Power Mac, is there anything I am missing?

    Power Mac 6100 Crescendo Hack

Interesting! I've just ordered some capacitors so will experiment with fans once I've recapped it. I'll let you know how I get on

    Power Mac 6100 Crescendo Hack

Thanks @Phipli, that's good to know! @Trash80toHP_Mini if you do end up overclocking I'd love to know how you accomplish this! Good luck if you try it! Update: The 6100 is blazing fast now, OS 7.6 is incredibly quick even with a 1GB Quantum Fireball, 8.5 is very good too but I'm going to...

    Power Mac 6100 Crescendo Hack

You should get in touch with @MrFahrenheit who I bought mine from. They are a little expensive but they're worth it. I noticed a huge difference in the 6100, EV Override was super smooth and I'll try out EV Nova tomorrow (although not expecting as much from that).

    Power Mac 6100 Crescendo Hack

Sorry I got the name wrong, and yeah it's strange that the Sonnet extensions picks it up as an AV card. The 7100 has a 33Mhz bus vs 30Mhz in the 6100/60 which I am using. When running metronome with the Wish gestalt ID changed it still reports the bus running at 30Mhz on the G3. Does that sound...

    Power Mac 6100 Crescendo Hack

Thank you everyone for the suggestions! I ended up getting it working! It is the black heatsink version, and it's actually 225Mhz, I thought it was 250Mhz. I tried updating to the latest Sonnet driver but that didn't do anything. Next I installed Wish and set my machine ID to a PM7100, then I...

    Power Mac 6100 Crescendo Hack

Does anyone know of a hack that will allow an AV/Display card to work with the Crescendo G3 card? From what I've been able to find the only reason support was disabled was because of the limited space in the 6100 and heat issues. It works fine but the CPU extension disables itself once it loads...

    PowerBook 1400cs/166 weirdness booting anything

From what I have experienced in the past disks sometimes go into read-only mode when there's some corruption going on. I've just uploaded a few of my discs which you can download below. The PB1400 can run 7.5.3 but it has to be the original version that came with the machine. I have found that...

iMac G3 strange clock speed variations

After testing on other machines by adding the Gauge application to Startup Items I found that this is a quirk from either Mac OS 9 or the Gauge application. I got the same increased CPU and Cache speeds on an unmodified Pismo for ~5mins after booting before it returned to normal. The disabled G4...

iMac G3 strange clock speed variations

I recently installed three small fans inside my iMac G3 to improve airflow and cooling and everything was fine. After that I thought I'd add one more running at 5v to cool one last point, and after that I noticed strange variations in clock speeds after booting. After installing the fourth fan...

Overclocked QS'02 CPU - Crashes X, but 9 is perfectly fine?

OSX does a CPU check on boot. I have a 1.8Ghz overclocked PowerBook G4 which will crash on any OSX system after booting. However, I installed the Snow Leopard PPC system which doesn't seem to check the CPU and it worked perfectly. No issues at all when running applications etc. OS9 usage was...

Web browser and email client for 68k Mac?

I wrote a guide on this focusing on OS8/9 a while back and I'm still using email with Outlook Express occasionally. I've accepted there are security vulnerabilities with this setup but I enjoy using it and don't transmit anything of importance. There's a small annual cost involved with this...

Is there a way to increase the 136MB RAM limit in the Power Mac 6100 and 7100

Is there a way to increase the 136MB RAM limit in the Power Mac 6100 and 7100

Thanks for your detailed reply!! I'm not sure why I thought I had 128MB SIMMs, I actually have 2x 64MB SIMMs. So the 136MB reading makes sense now. Interestingly the 6100 will only recognise the sticks if they are installed as pairs. When only only one SIMM is present the 6100 only recognises...

Is there a way to increase the 136MB RAM limit in the Power Mac 6100 and 7100

Is there a way to increase the 136MB RAM limit in the Power Mac 6100 and 7100? I have a bunch of 128MB EDO sticks that work in these machines but nothing above 136MB is recognised. Are there any hacks that can be done to change this or is it locked in with the default CPU specs? I have a G3...
