About the only way to read/write Apple II disks is with an Apple II... the tricky part is getting the image transferred to the A2 in the first place. ADTPro is probably the best place to start as it handles a number of different transfer methods.

I've got half a dozen G3 iMacs still in regular use and they all get quite warm to the touch -- never had any problems other than 1 dead HDD, so my guess is that the convection cooling is quite adequate.
