On further inspection looks like a CGA socket. @68kPlus your correct came from Epay and I probably paid way too much but was intrigued to see what it was!
Some people hated the compact Mac obviously. These are 512k boards with a homebrew VGA adaptor in an old PC type case. I haven't tested them yet. Pull apart and clean/inspect then see what happens.
I think it was around 40 to 50 pounds. The combined price was around A$200 which was better than I could find here at the time. It was worth it as it was a made in Ireland version of the SE and it worked, only ever see asian and some us builds in Australia.
Do you know the drive you put in works?
Do you have another early mac to write a system floppy on?
Where are you sourcing from, Mac Garden? Search for Apple System recovery CD and use that to create a new floppy on the G# if the drive is OK
