Apple ROM on Quantum SCSI drives

I have, but it just doesn't feel as real as having a drive with the Apple firmware. You know, perfection. CelGen: This drive is working perfectly, also I have a theory to why they might fail so much -- there's two DC SMD capacitors on the volt input stage, they filter the voltage lines so that...

    Why a soldered battery?

Only a very new revision of the Macintosh SE motherboard contains a battery socket. I'm not sure why it's not socketed, but it just isn't. Maybe to save production costs? I advice you to desolder the battery then try to find a battery socket from another broken motherboard (all kinds of...

Apple ROM on Quantum SCSI drives

Thanks for the warm welcome. :) I decided to give up, so I removed the socket and the solder on the pads, then I soldered the EPROM to the PCB instead. Just to make the drive live a little longer if I store it in a cold room or something. Those sockets tend to corrode easily over the years.

Apple ROM on Quantum SCSI drives

Heya, I've got a Quantum ProDrive ELS 170S, which is identical (except for 10MB size difference) to the ELS 160S that is shipped as a configuration option for the Macintosh Quadra 700. My problem is that this HDD doesn't have any Apple firmware, are there any way to hack the ROM so it'll be...

Help Reviving a Dead Classic II?

Yeah, that's electrolyte fluid. Good thing you're recapping this thing now and not later, the electrolyte leakage does more damage over time. Be sure to clean it properly off, use a toothbrush and some isopropanol alcohol to remove the goo. This might have happened to the logic board as well...

    Mac Plus screen flicker

Caps indeed. Check the DC filtering caps (the big one(s)), also measure the PSU startup-resistors (if any) while you're at it.
