PM 9600/200: what are my CPU upgrade options today?

Sonnet made good cards. 1mb cache does make a difference. I’d definitely hold out for that. I’d probably look for a 400mhz. They come up often enough. Faster than that is a bit harder to find. G4s don’t add much unless you’re running OSX.

New Accelerator for Apple II-series soon available!

A while back on his facebook page he mentioned that he might be producing one with larger ROM. Don't know what I'd put on 512k but a couple mb I could really put to use.

    SCSI2SD vs Floppy Emu

I have a SCSI2SD, Aztecmonster and a Floppyemu. I installed one SCSI2SD at the front of an external SCSI case that came with an opening for  small media. It lets me swap media and move the enclosure from one computer to another. The Aztecmonster feels a little faster. I’ve considered replacing...

    MDD Ultimate OS9 Machine Upgrades

I've used a Sonnet SATA card in a MDD with both SSD and mechanical hard drive. They benchmarked the same. The only advantage was that the SSD didn't spin down. I liked the Kensington Turbomouse Pro trackball

    MDD Ultimate OS9 Machine Upgrades

I'm using a MDD to play a few games. For gaming I found mechanical hard drives to be a pain. I tried various hard drive setups but right now I'm using a Compact Flash with ide adapter. Fast and inexpensive

    PCI SATA bootable card?

I have several Sonnet SATA cards. They are bootable. I've used one in an 8600. Earlier cards listed MacOS 8.5 as minimum OS but I've heard of people using earlier OSes.

    Javascript slows down a G4

Aside from CPU power, there's the RAM issue for the currant web. With 4 other tabs open Activity monitor says my browser alone is using 3gb RAM

    Multiple Scan 20

Bought one, I believe in 1995 to use with a IIgs with a Second Sight card. Later connected it to my shiny new 7600/132. It was a great CRT monitor

    Parts machine, maybe not

About 6 weeks ago I picked up a batch 9 Mac Pros for $50 each from a company that mostly wanted them out of their store room. One was a 2010, 2 were 2008 and the rest were 2006. I kept the 2010 and put 2 on CL and have almost made my money back. I keep meaning to put some others on CL but keep...

    Parts machine, maybe not

Picked up a 2009 2.66 quad core Mac Pro for parts for $50. No RAM, HD or video card. Installed those and it booted right up. Have to run it a bit to make sure it’s stable and maybe do a firmware update to 5,1

    G4 vs G5 iMac performance

    G4 vs G5 iMac performance

Depending on which G5, I'd say 1.5 to 2x. The G5 iMacs do have a reputation for bad caps in the power supply For even more speed you might also consider a 2006 or 7 intel iMac. Those will run 10.4. And if you want hugely hugely more speed, there's the 2007 8 core Mac Pro but any 2007 or...
