Thank you for that. I do have an ultrasonic cleaner for vinyl records, but not sure that’s going to work. And I did figure this was going to take some serious work. I was already figuring on recapping it. I’m a look into replacing chips that are available. Still rather than trying to reuse...
Yes, I plan on it. One of the reasons I got it was because I am going to improve my soldering skills with a class at the local electronics recycler/STEM education program, and this will serve as an easier model to learn to do this on, and also will be less critical than doing it on my more...
That that battery is not pretty and is of the awful maxell type. But it doesn’t look too exploded and they’re only seems to be damaged right there at the battery. Otherwise, it just looks dirty in there.
I just like the look of the Blue and white. But maybe if something is useful. But if they are not interchangeable from Quicksilver to BW, wouldn't think the reverse would work either??
Like I said, I will study some more. I am a lawyer (where I have used Macs to do legal work) and ski...
Ok. Hmm, will read up more. Headed to EveryMac to study. I have a couple office and home locations so I am sure I can find something useful to do with it.
Ok, Another one. I now have two from this era, also my G3 Blue and White that is freezing upon booting. Still haven't had time to fiddle with troubleshooting that one yet. This one came with a beat up keyboard, and a 17 inch Cinema Display with a broken support. Works though!
The machine...
Well, this came home with me. I couldn’t help it. I am so rebuilding a collection. Haven’t hooked it up or turned it on yet. I guess we’ll see. Before I do I will open it up and check the battery at at least.
Yeah, all the plastic bits on those old 90's machines seem to be really fragile. I have been dealing with a much lesser plastics issue in the tray and track that holds the CD Rom drive. I know some parts are available 3D printed if you search around, via the internet, but have never seen...
OK, got that CD drive managed for now. The plastic bits on the sled and rail are a bit broken, but I got it seated in there well enough so it works. I’ll look into getting 3-D printed parts to replace at some point. It was a challenge getting the 3-D print printed power button to line up...
Ok, sorted and working again for now. Definitely broken plastic bits, I slid the drive out a bit and repositioned. Put it together as is and got things back together and it works for now. A little tricky getting the 3D printed power button to line up right but that seems to be ok for now too.
Yeah, in messing with it, it just seems that somehow the tray is not matching up with the hole. Will see how I can adjust it when I can open things up.
Ending up with a graphite G4 which has not been run in years for another 50 bucks. Might end up as a parts donor. Will decide as I go. But will likely only have time to pick up the G4 tomorrow without much time to do much else, and then can't probably properly investigate/troubleshoot either...
The CD-ROM door on this machine started sticking and not wanting to open. Anyone have that happen? Wondering if the tray is just hanging up on the facia.
