Beige G3 RAM and PSU questions:

I briefly looked into this and its wired directly into the Heathrow/Mac-io chip. There is MFM support in ROM so it would probably work without any further hacks.

New PCB design: 840AV/8100 Stealth ATX

I've finally sent this off for fabrication. I thought I was about 5 minutes away from finishing but it ended up taking a few hours more. There's so much detail to oversee.

Carrera SE30 control and Bolle Carrera040 in the Mac SE/30

I wonder if this has the same root cause as when my Carrera040 bombs out with a custom (home-made) ROM SIMM.

Carrera SE30 control and Bolle Carrera040 in the Mac SE/30

This is a new one to me, is it a Carrera + HC Video 30 card + aftermarket ROM issue, or just a Carrera + aftermarket ROM issue? EDIT: Ah, found your answer to this Also how could it just affect the Reloaded board since it’s electrically identical to the original?

    PPC750GX vs. PPC750GL?

It would be a pity to let it get forgotten after doing all that hard work to reverse engineer it.

PowerBook 500 Connector 'Destroyed Mold' - Just a Myth?

I’m planning on full 040 not PPC. So I’ll need to find Pratt chips rather than PBX. The headline features would be 16MB onboard RAM (upgradeable to 48MB), and maybe a ROM disk. That said, the work here could pave the way towards PPC upgrade projects in future. 750GL/GX, 512k on-die. Not...

Smoke out of the SE/30 Video ROM

Looks like one of the VRAM chips is dead, from the unusual simasimac screen - it’s missing columns of data.

PowerBook 500 Connector 'Destroyed Mold' - Just a Myth?

The ROM chips would still be onboard, I just meant the connector would be a way to program those chips (by exposing their programming pins to a harness) while the power is off. Seems like too much work and also a bit destructive, my aim with whatever I design is that it harmonise with the...

New PCB design: 840AV/8100 Stealth ATX

I wanted to share this layout for a brand new PCB that I've just about finished, one of my first proper designs. It is intended to fit like a glove inside the Delta power supply housing that's common to the Quadra 840AV and Power Macintosh 8100. These PSUs are failure-prone and notoriously...

PowerBook 500 Connector 'Destroyed Mold' - Just a Myth?

Oh, interesting. That's quite specialist knowledge you've got there. I found the page for the Metristak connector: https://www.connectorpeople.com/Connector/TYCO-AMP-TE_CONNECTIVITY/5/535697-6 and they do seem to have plenty of stock as you say. I'll see if I can get a bunch of them for the...

You have metristack connectors, but only female ones? I can’t find either gender available anywhere.

PowerBook 500 Connector 'Destroyed Mold' - Just a Myth?

Physical space is the difficulty with removable DIP chips, as there’s not much. Maybe some kind of JTAG style connector onboard the redesigned CPU card with a special harness would be a possibility? Yes, I’ve read through the dev note and am pretty sure we could use the upper 2MB for a ROM disk.
