Help with srecord for splitting and joining ROMs

    Thank you – this has indeed worked great. The exact commands I used are: To Split srec_cat 1996-10_83A21950_PowerBook_1400_1400cs.bin -binary -byte-swap 2 -split 4 0 2 -o High_srec.bin -binary srec_cat 1996-10_83A21950_PowerBook_1400_1400cs.bin -binary -byte-swap 2 -split 4 2 2 -o...

    180MHz 603ev CPU upgrade for 5300ce?

If they're not available then I'll dump mine (I don't have a complete 5300, but I do have a logic board).

Help with srecord for splitting and joining ROMs

Not really as I don't have access to a PC at the moment. And I'd rather figure out the problem than avoid it, since I'm told srec is the best tool to use (although not the easiest to get the hang of).

Help with srecord for splitting and joining ROMs

I'd like to get the hang of joining and splitting Macintosh ROMs and have been recommended srecord by the forum regulars, but I'm having some trouble with interleaving. I have installed srecord 1.65 on my Mac via Homebrew. As an experiment I'm trying to combine the High and Low ROMs that I...

Is the Quadra 610 Quaddoubler supposed to work in an LC475?

Really? So does an LC475 tighten RAM timings when the Q605 jumper is set?

    180MHz 603ev CPU upgrade for 5300ce?

What do you think, @joevt ? Could a late 1400 Series ROM boot a 5300 Series or Duo 2300c?

    Possible Wallstreet VRAM Upgrade?

My first thought is whether you’d be able to close the powerbook with the ram expansion socket installed, but I guess it just takes up the space where the modem normally resides. I don’t think any software or firmware would need to be adjusted, since the Rage Pro does support up to 8MB. I have...

Anyone wanna help me troubleshoot my Simasimac Reloaded SE/30 board?

Check UH7 again as that is notoriously difficult to fit on a Reloaded board.

    180MHz 603ev CPU upgrade for 5300ce?

Yes :) It’s not that you can’t set the correct multiplier on the logic board; you can but the real issue is that you’ll get no boot. For whatever reason, support for multipliers above 4x needs to be enabled in firmware. If you knew what you were doing you could try to disassemble the old and...

    180MHz 603ev CPU upgrade for 5300ce?

Here we go. I/O is 3.3V tolerant, just PLL and Core supply needs to be 2.5V. I guess you could do it by bending those 14 legs (13x Vdd, 1x AVdd) back and wiring them up through a level shifter.

    180MHz 603ev CPU upgrade for 5300ce?

No, that’s the key issue. You’d need to incorporate a 2.5V level shifter somehow for VCC. You’d also have to see if 603ev is 3.3V tolerant on the I/O, if it’s not then that’s a total deal breaker. If it’s just the power input legs then yeah you could do a messy hack!

    180MHz 603ev CPU upgrade for 5300ce?

Well you could clock the bus up to 40MHz for 160MHz operation and it would probably work if you can find a QFP 603e (not ev) faster than 120MHz - there might be some 133MHz chips floating about but I doubt more than that. People have clocked the PB1400 to 40MHz successfully so I’m very...
