    jmacz journey

I wonder if the form factor of the machine and the way they’ve been stored in the last 35 years has something to do with it, rather than it being a different batch of panel.

My point of reference is the Quadra 840AV so maybe they improved some aspects of the case design by the time the 8500 came out.

They are, anytime you want to work on the motherboard you have to disconnect all the internal cables, remove all the expansion cards and then awkwardly slide it out, fighting with clips and hooks as you go.

Quadra 700 Mainboard in IIcx case ...

    If a 33MHz and above 68040 needs a heatsink then I'd assume a 80MHz 601 also needs one.

Not by a long shot. You could call it utilitarian or uninspiring, but it’s not ugly. The LC500 Series and Molar Mac (G3 AIO) wins that award.

Quadra 700 Mainboard in IIcx case ...

Is that wise? Might you damage the chip?

    nubus scsi card any benefit?

This would be very cool - a dedicated thread sounds sensible. Would enabling 10MB/sec mean disconnecting external SCSI devices?

    RAM upgrade for Macintosh SE30

I dual boot 7.1 and 7.5 but use 7.1 more often these days. I did have an 8.1 install but once the novelty wore off I didn’t feel there was that much point running it on my SE/30.

Anyone know if this is a solder down CPU or just an odd CPU in a socket?

I have one of these, came with a 630 board as well. It’s just a QFP to PGA adapter and you can remove it from the socket. I swapped a full 040 onto mine and run it in an LC475.

What you would do is create a 7.5 floppy with the ResEdit patch applied.

    PowerBook 3400c quarz crystal overclocking

Maybe the CPU can’t handle being overclocked that far. You could try 50MHz x 4 (200MHz).

Powerbook 1400: Booting from SD Card & Adventures with 3Com Etherlink III

Does it appear in TCP/IP or AppleTalk control panels? These are usually listed as Alternate Ethernet. A crossover cable is required if connecting directly to another computer but not if you’re connecting into a hub/switch.

New PCB design: 840AV/8100 Stealth ATX

The GitHub repository is now public, here: https://github.com/croissantking/840AV-Stealth-ATX Now it's time the community gets to work to restore those dead PSUs :) FWIW, I've discovered some models of Seasonic PSU (in addition to EarthWatts) use the same donor board, these are listed in the...

PowerBook 500 Series Battery Rebuild Failure (Oops, all dead EMMs!)

You can get tabbed cells and solder them together, there's not a safety issue with NiMH. The only problem is that if you go for the original 'A' size, you won't get them to fit in. But AA cells, which are smaller, should work fine.
