Here is my PC 9000 which works great with the OEM Mac rom. This card is 64mb.

The geforce2mx is a bit slow imho, struggles with window animations and basic games in 10.4.

I changed from a flashed reduced rom ATI 9250 card to a flashed ATI 9000 with original rom and all my PSU whines have gone away. For some reason the 9250 caused my PSU to whine, no idea why. And it was definitely the PSU. The original Geforce 2 MX also causes no issues.

Nice quicksilver! 933Mhz is a really nice cpu to have for OS9. And for $50 that is a bargain. Add some RAM and you’ll have a really nice machine. I’d keep the B&W as is for posterity…my 2c.

Try your tests again but this time with the 9250 connected via DVI. My 9200 also only outputs at 640x480 over VGA for some reason.

Where on earth do you find these treasures?! I swear folks in my area never used Apple gear in the 80’s and 90’s. Somerset and Devon is devoid of mac goodies, and if you do find something they stick ‘vintage’ in front of it and try and charge £500 more for a broken hunk of smashed up plastic.

All recapped, unfortunately my psu noise is still there, so I need to look further afield. At least it’s good now for a few more years.

I did! Digikey have a ‘UK’ redirection, but the parts still ship from the US. Having said that, I’ve used Mouser UK and RS components in the past and shipping was still quite expensive.

Remaining caps arrived today. £2.80 in parts cost...£12 in shipping! :D Will tackle the psu on the weekend.

Thank you for the cap list. I've done 5 of the caps on the lower side of the heatsink. When I pop a different gfx card in my QS the power supply whines so I may go ahead and change all the caps...it's definitely the power supply. My unit is a Rev D
