Yes, when cleaning heads, the most you ever want to do is keep the drive in the up position, and stick a q-tip with IPA in between them and sweep back and forth. That's it. Don't move the head up.
Regardless of whatever political stuff there is, just build it and price it with the margin you want above cost, and we will buy it. It costs whatever it costs.
Other option: if you can get an external BlueSCSI or equivalent, and adapter cable for the 100, just mount that on the 100 and use Disk Copy to make an image of the drive onto that.
Why not start up another machine with some other disk, hook up the MacSD/ZuluSCSI to that machine, and in Mac OS using a utility, make the disk read-only?
