Easiest to obtain Mac Plus CPU upgrade

im probably wrong but don't those micromac Plus/SE boards have driver issues or something with respect to reliability?

    SCSI Zip Drives?

im not sure the exact power requirements for the 5v PSU but id suggest something closer to 1.5A to 2.0A. it might just be that my particular unit is wearing out however every time ive used a 1A PSU (tired a couple btw) I couldn't get it to read disks or show up in scsi manger reliably

    Lapis ProColorServer hanging in 7.5.5?

did Lapis ever even write drivers for system 7.5.x? my understanding when I looked into this a few years ago (had the same or a similar model card) was that getting lapis cards running on anything higher then 7.1 is pretty unlikely. there should a DeclROM on the card, its what lets the Mac use...

    UniMac 82D Schematic or Help

exactly what Pivot card and monitor do you have for that IIsi? I had a color pivot card for the IIsi ages ago and I had some issues getting it working at the time. some pivot cards have weird video output signals, and some default to 640x864 res that almost no modern lcd is going even try to...

    Auto Floppy Repair Info

usual IPA on a q-tip is the best way to go when first cleaning the drive heads, sometimes this doesn't work and even if you can't really see anything on the heads they may still not be fully clean. when I find a drive in that stage I then apply the soapy water, but I use mineral free water to...

    BlueSCSI updates

ive booted my bluescsi directly off a couple different bootable iso Mac installers. there's a lot of badly ripped boot cd's floating around that don't have the correct boot blocks meaning they won't directly boot. however im pretty sure somewhere on the bluescsi wiki is a page that lists and...

    SCSI2SD ... ZuluSCSI ...

@mgma bluescsi is probably the cheapest option cost wise and while I can't speak for working on other systems the code behind bluescsi was originally written by a Japanese guy for the sharp X68000 if memory serves correct. id strongly advise to not use the overclocked firmware though...

    SCSI2SD ... ZuluSCSI ...

bluescsi is probably you cheapest and easiest to build option, its code base is regularly updated, pretty sure CD-ROM iso support is available now. however @cheesestraws bring up a real issue, overdriving a. cpu to get better performance probably isn't a good idea in terms of reliability and...

My first SE/30 - will I be happy or sad?

the problem with many so called 'experts' who change money to fix vintage Macs or computers etc its that sadly many don't actually know the correct way to repair or fix things. over the years ive worked in electronics its shocked me more times then I care to admit in respect to the poor quality...

    Fixing an Orbit ADB trackball

@joshc if you can get the exact size you need you can stretch tubing by heating it up (helpful if inner circle is too small. failing that In the past ive also used a 3D printer to print flexible filament like TPU, its worked well for me in the past fwiw

    Comm Slot II Repoduction?

honestly I haven't taken much attention to if the CSII NIC's are 10 or 100, and it wouldn't bother me what speed they support if I could get one in Australia at a fair price, but so far ive had no luck these last 2 years to find one unless I want to speed silly money. where about are you from...

SE/30 - some rows on the CRT are offset a little bit

yeah its also common for people restoring vintage machines to use tantalum's in place of electrolytic so it pays to double check. I guess the good thing is they don't fail with a short these days (well less common anyways), they also don't leak! personally I prefer not to use tantalum caps. when...

    Yet Another Netatalk 2.2 Fork

@slipperygrey that sounds like quite the challenge then. if you do ever feel like going down that road and trying to reimplement AppleTalk in userspace it would be pretty awesome. id certainly be signing up to test and help out with that side of stuff. ive got a few Macs and they run everything...

SE/30 - some rows on the CRT are offset a little bit

I totally understand, hopefully the recap solves you screen issues. I have a real soft spot for the SE/30 myself

    Yet Another Netatalk 2.2 Fork

@slipperygrey just how hard would it be to move it into userspace? I guess doing that would allow it to be more portable and platform independent going forward?

    Yet Another Netatalk 2.2 Fork

@slipperygrey thanks for the info, wasn't aware that it used a kernel module. I guess that completely rules out any future macOS support. I have looked at netatalk v3 but as far as I know version 3 just won't and cannot work with system 6 or 7.x due to something being removed in the newer netatalk.

    Yet Another Netatalk 2.2 Fork

@slipperygrey how hard would this be to get building on modern macOS? I know Mac is bad based but uses launchd as its startup service. I use some somewhere called Homebrew unix software (its kinda like apt-get) that might be the way to go for this? Im not really skilled in porting software...

    Comm Slot II Repoduction?

@David Cook great work there with the pcb, not sure if you have plans to release the files but even the physical pcb dimensions and the comm slot edge connector would certainly be handy to anyone working on projects for these slots. @Byrd yes as far as im aware the comm slot I was nubs or...

SE/30 - some rows on the CRT are offset a little bit

just for your own future reference, the black line/stripe etc on capacitors is always the negative terminal. unfortunately tantalum capacitors for whatever reason are marked the opposite to every other capacitor. a good tip/trick that I often use to help is to take a couple photos of the board...

    Comm Slot II Repoduction?

As we all know Comm Slot II cards are worth rare and expensive to buy when they become available for sale. im wondering if it would be possible to make a modern reproduction board using NOS parts? Im not sure what model exactly but there is a Farallon Comm slot II card that used the Intel...
