there's going to be a theoretical limit for each system based on CPU speed, bus speed, hdd speed etc, but on top of that i think software overhead is also going to play a part. i haven't done any network packet analysis to see if exactly why different FTP servers had such different max transfer...
with the exact same card in my SE/30 using an admittedly bloated system 7.5.5 and Open Transport i get 85-90kb/s average with peeks upto around 95kb/s using AFP on netatalk2 from my linux server.
running the exact same setup with FTP (even with AFP shares still mounted) i get an average of...
could be a bad PAL, but im more inclined to think after re-soldering the pins, its broken a pcb trace or via etc.
i would go over the video circuitry both with continuity and resistance too. rule that out sorta thing.
you likely have to separate faults going on with both the se/30 and the SE...
ive done images close to 32gb in size (was largest micro sd card i had at the time) on the bluescsi. generally any device that has exFAT support should work as the reason for adding exFAT support on these devices is really only for the larger file size limits over FAT32
you can get the DIN41612 from pretty much any major parts supplier, i linked a search for mouser, butothers like digikey, element14 usually have stock too...
probably not the best example for me to give for modifying the installers.
at the end of the day its more the question of can it be done and how hard it would be to do.
its much quicker to just copy a system folder thats being modified to say boot sys 7.5.5 on a mac SE/30 with 32bit clean roms...
i think i know what you mean, i mainly a hardware design guy so my software skills arent pretty limited but seeing the stuff you and Crutch get upto on here anyways gets me intersted and reading up on things and i think after system 6 things just got chaotic in mac development both hardware and...
was just using that as am example, while ive tried those patches i havent actually spent any real time testing in depth or anything besides confirms they seem to work and i can access files..
id imagine it would be painful at best, deadly to the mind at worst.
so in theory though if one could...
Im wondering if anyone knows how difficult it would be to modify system software installers to change what is installed and to add things
for example there are some system file modifications that people like to use and also essential things like the 2020 control panel for dealing with modern...
tip if you rename your system folders to say 'System 8.1 Folder' and system 'System 7.5.5 Folder' or any other name you want really, then you can use system picker to select system folder to boot from while keeping them on the same hdd partition.

i designed an ADB switchbox that uses relays for that 'sound' when you switch machines, but i never got around to laying out a pcb for it.
theres some cool scsi stuff like networking and sd hdd's but apart from the bluescsi v1.x i think most use smt parts.
its probably not in the scope or what...
not sure if this info is helpful or not but i have a 630DOS myself, i could never get PC Setup running on 8.1 back when i tried it about a year or so ago. i tried 1.64 and 2.17f.
I have an industrial CF card made bny sandisk as my main drive, PC setup has always worked on there with 7.5.5 and...
@bigmessowires im pretty sure my info above came from reading your blog posts on a Apple disk controller you were working on at some stage. Considering it was a few years ago Im glad I at least remembered half correctly.
After looking at your link above, which is great info too btw, I’m pretty...
It’s likely due to pin 9 originally being used to provide -12v during the Apple II days but during mac development for whatever reason they choose to no longer connect that pin on the logic board. In fact I think latter floppy drives themselves had that pin connected to +5v.
So I probably...
for the VRAM, if you want good sockets, get what’s known commonly as ‘machined pin sockets’ or ‘Turned pin sockets’
im not sure where you are located but the link below is an example of what you want, you don’t have to use the same brand or anything but at least you can get all the socket type...
you Could just add large enough to easily solder pads on the 2x10 pin connector side of the pcb. Then if someone only wants to use HD20/DCD they don’t need to worry about it but if they want floppy support then can solder the extra connections?
This is this project on GitHub
https://github.com/rdolbeau/NuBusFPGA
its using a FPGA to get video output via hdmi, it apparently can do sound, has a RAM disk and mentions wanting to add networking support etc… might Be a good place to start or perhaps build upon/get ideas from in regards to...
Oh ok, sorry I must have missed the need to solder to a carrier board. Just wondering and sorry if I missed it if you’ve already explained it but how come you need to solder the chip onto a pga adaptor rather then just use a socket, at least for prototype verification? Is it to do with clearance...
may even be worth just replacing UC6 with a new chip, those 74F253’s are pretty cheap to buy. also do keep in mind that if there was any capacitor leakage around any of those IC’s best practice it to actually remove and clean under them. Also one of then pins on UC6 looks a little suspect so...
